I was thinking about the number of times that friends have offered well intentioned but in the end, unhelpful advice, regarding my being transgendered.

An example is when I was having relationship difficulties…” maybe if you toned it down a bit” when , for most of my life ( and was at the time )I have strongly suppressed my expression of self due to negative reactions from others.

“You are a nice soft looking man but really a rough looking woman” ..thanks for the encouragement..but being womanly is what I have to do!

“Why don’t you just dress when noone is around?” ..yes, 25 years in the closet, full of guilt, fear and loathing..going back to hiding is a real option!!NOT.

Sometimes these comments just don’t offer any help as they misunderstand or belittle the needs we have to express our selves fully.

Does anyone else have examples of well meaning ( not obviously nasty, we are better off ignoring that shit!) but that just don’t offer any help.
