A beautiful story yesterday on The Today show. Its still on the website in full. A young boy in the USA has been filmed all his childhood life in his journey to be a girl. He now lives as a girl and his parents let him do what he wants. Its very emotional. Georgie Gardiner, the newsreader breaks down uncontrollably during it, and Lisa Wilkinson consoles her. Very touching.

Thanks for the info and link Angela. I just watched the video.

I think it is one of the most positive media discussions I have ever seen in regard to a Trans child and their Parent’s reaction/decision. If only more news segments of this nature, preferably in regard to Adults also, would occur, it would advance our ’cause’ considerably for public awareness.

Karl, Lisa and Georgie discussed the topic with a supportive and understanding approach – lots of credit to them for being so honest with their opinions – it says a lot about their personal natures.

I couldn’t see a discussion / blog related to the story – I would have definately made a comment!

    Clare.

    Here is the link:

Choose “Boy wants to be a girl” (derrrr).

Hallelujah – positive portrayal of transgender issues by mainstream media. Doesn’t this contrast so strongly with the David Letterman skit (http://youtu.be/EbHN6wh8rvc)?

And here is an excerpt from the original ABC News story:

All credit to ABC for its sensitive treatment of this. Why don’t any of the other channels do the same?
