TgR Wall Forums Transgender Radio Improving TgR Unacceptable Posting

TgR has the following policy on posting. All member s must abide by this. As to what constitutes the fine line between, say what is a personal attack or not, ultimately lies with the moderator.

I would urge the process of moderation to encourage debate and diminish the fear of having a post altered or removed. The foundation of a good and democratic society is based on freedom of expression. Is that not what a significant portion of what gender diversity is all about?

So, with that in mind, I would suggest that the policy of moderation err on the side of freedom, as opposed to restriction. To encourage debate. To allow more than you would otherwise allow. That sometimes, although “bad” posts may taint the discussion, the overall discussion is more important than a few (if that many) “bad” posts.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states

    Quote:
“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

    Martin Luther King once said:

    Quote:
We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.

Please, let us encourage thought and speech and discourage silence.

    3. What constitutes unacceptable posting?
A posting is unacceptable if it falls into one or more of the following categories:
    a) May violate any applicable laws
    b) Is abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, or sexually-oriented
    c) Contains a personal attack on another member
    d) Could be interpreted as a criticism of another member’s beliefs, gender choices, or lifestyle
    e) Is unsolicited advertising for a commercial activity
    f) Contains soliciting for sexual parttners or other adult activities.

It is good to remind members that TgR differs from many internet sites in requiring standards of behaviour on-line more closely matching expectations of behavior in the ‘real’ world.

The rules have been established over time to reduce conflict and to ensure that those volunteering their time to run TgR do not become the victims of attacks from the peanut gallery.

Freedom of speech is an ideal of some, but TgR cannot accommodate it. It would result in a loss of enjoyment for the volunteers (including the admin) which would soon afterwards inevitably result in the site being shut down.

As there is no suggestion in this idea for improvement that is consistent with the long-term survival of TgR I have locked this thread.
