    Testosterone levels

Posted by Elizabeth on 02/08/2012 at 7:39 pm

Never too sure where these sort of things should go, but not taking things too seriously, here would be the best spot.
I just read a thread by Sarah-Elizabeth on when did it all start and her experiences with her sisters ballet gear. I’m still turned on or into ballet, such beauty and graceful movements, the epitome of feminism? So I always thought until recently I came across an interesting read. You can believe it or not, and don’t ask me for the source, I moved on and cannot remember.
There was this statement on the levels of testosterone in various peoples. Me having an almost deleted supply pricked both my eyes and ears up. (Ihave to rely more on eyes as I’ve discovered my deafness is now profound.
The list went as follows: Footballers, briming with the stuff, firemen, almost as much if not more. And, sorry Sarah-Elizabeth, ballerinas, yes, I too found that hard to swallow until I read on. Ballerinas are primarily athletes, very graceful athletes but nevertheless athletic people. They’re very strong despite being willowy. They can be quite agressive and competitive, that I can understand. But ballerinas on pointe, oozing with excessive testosterone, I just don’t know. I’ve come across some strange things in my time and I’m still scratching my head.

    Liz
when a female has high testosterone this usually means she has a high level for her gender. As we know females have a very low level of the stuff compared to males ,so a slight increase in terms of T measured in mg/l or similar units will make a big % increase in the stuff. This explains how girls develop acne – a small increase in T but a big increase in T in % terms at puberty causes it. With ‘athletes ‘ Its well documented that they have relatively high levele ( in both genders ) as a result of the body producing it due to exercise. Im told that in males a low level of T will result in low levels of estrogen as estrogen is usually made from T
I was told by one of the endos I saw that having a low level of T in a male is dangerous , leading to heart and kidney problems, serious depression and some akin to chronic fatigue . At the same time ,low T doesnt lead to feminisation as E is diminished as well. When my very low T was diagnosed I was told by the endo to have T injections asap .it seems that having low levels of both T and E is a no no and increasing E will ward off the danger
    I hope this helps

Thanks for your input Suzanne on T levels. I know you’re right on the button. My own low levels may well have already caused some cardio vascular problems etc. But then E levels would also be down, so one balances the other out. I’m not on HRT for health reasons however the appropriate levels still are important. My thread was put in Fun Stuff because I really didn’t believe it, now I do! Thanks.

    Dear Liz
I really don’t know what you mean by: “But then E levels would also be down, so one balances the other out. ” If you are saying having low T levels are ok as E would be low ,this Im told is wrong wrong wrong
Two endos have told me our body needs either T or E as the dominant hormone ,But low levels of both is a dangerous balance ..My low levels of T are thought to be responsible for the onset of my type 2 diabetes, for example
I think it wise for you to decide which characteristics you wouldbe happiest with, then raise the level of the hormone that produces these.
So if you want to be feminine ,raise the level of E .If you want to be masculine, raise the level of T … Hopefully If T is raised ,your E level will be increased a bit by the body to make the E to T ratio “normal ” To hang around with low levels of both is inviting disaster – well thats what Ive both been told (and have read ).
Look on the bright side – you probably wont have to take a hormone suppressant if transitioning
    Blessings,
    Suzzanne
