Celebrity Wigs, Chapel St South Yarra. Run by an exiled British lady, this extremely well stocked and impressive studio was my first stop in Melbourne. Friendly, objective advice and private fitting area. Highlly professional and reasonably priced considering the quality of the wigs and hairpieces.

I had a good experience at Celebrity Wigs in Melbourne. I had left my hair at home in Hobart and so had to find somewhere in the city to buy one at rather short notice. I Googled up what Melbourne had to offer and Celebrity seemed the best bet. Finding them was quite something; they’re on a lane way off a lane way, in through a dodgy door into a daggy foyer with a lift that didn’t work. Up the to the third floor via the creeky wooden stairs and lo and behold you find yourself in their salubrious, new looking office and show room. I went in first thing and the wig lady asked me what I was after. She showed me to the fitting room and then went off to find a few that fit the bill. I was in boy clothes and no makeup. Well, if a wig looks good in those circumstances it’s gonna do just fine when you’re all dolled up. It’s definitely my hair of choice at the moment.

    Dear Felicity,
Yes. I agree the entrance is grotty but the salon is neat and tidy and the ladies very attentive. I have made 3 purchases there and each time I am treated very kindly. I hope you enjoy wearing the wig. The quality is excellent. When I was after my latest purchase, I was after a close fitting wig to give me a more feminine head shape. It worked. What style and colour did you choose? love from Julie.

    Hi Girls,
Ihad a great experience at Celebrity Wigs in the City in Melbourne, it is off Little Burke Street I think, in a smell side street and up a couple of floors.
Well worth a visit. I went in drab and was treated with excellent service, the receptionist clled a lady attendant and she tried several wigs on me and we agreed on one that suited me.
All very pleasant and no questions asked.
I couldn’t wait to get home and put on make up and try it on.
    I can really recommend them
    Love Lyndalxxxxx :D

Big thumbs up to the store Celeb wigs.

It was my first wig purchase and as a big online shopper stopping in was a little nerve wracking but wow did they put me at ease, discuss my style and give me expert opinion on how they thought each one was going to look.

Love them and will be back.

    Hi everyone,

Appreciate the other comments and happy to let folks go wherever they want to take their hard earneds.

But I have to put in a plug for Celebrity Wigs, up the top end of Swanston Street in Melbourne, but tucked up in laneway on the western side.

I have bought at least two wigs from them and I also “get my hair done:” there quite a lot. IE Post the wigs in and they send them back via the same method and then Caty feels like a million $$$ with “proper hair”. They would happily do mail order on new wigs as well.

Bianca is your contact and is a great help. As of this morning they have a new on line store.

For our WA members of course you have Tim at Play with Hair, he is just as good and most of Caty’s “period fashion hairdo’s” have come from there

    Hope this helps

    Happy Dressing,

    Caty

Cant answer either question Fiona, as is mentioned in previous posts from years back, they closed down the Chapel Street store quite some time back. This I know as I used to go there to get Caty’s “hair done”, as I now do in the Melbourne CBD. As for extensions and cuts etc, you’ll have to ring and ask.

    Regards

I’ve been a customer of Celebrity Wigs and, as has been said, it really looks like the dodgiest place to visit but they are definitely great with their service. Back in the day they were the place to go and recommended by Seahorse Victoria.
On the other hand recently I was hunting the net for a new wig and a friend suggested EWigs. I contacted them and was very happy with their service and the item itself, a lace wig.
Their prices are decent as well. The url is http://www.ewigsau.com
