‘What’s in your pants?’: Gender diverse people exposed to high rates of sexual violence
Eye catching headline in the SMH today for the The Australian Trans and Gender Diverse Sexual Health Survey report.
The survey found that many trans and gender diverse people lead fulfilling sexual and romantic lives. The survey also found, however, a number of areas requiring urgent attention. These include:
1. The prevalence of sexual violence or coercion among trans and gender diverse people is exceptionally high (particularly in those assigned female at birth)
2. When accessing care related to sexual health, trans and gender diverse people experience marginalisation because of their gender.
3. Trans and gender diverse people are unable to access some or all of the medical processes they seek to affirm their gender.
4. Sex education does not support the needs of trans and gender diverse people. With over 1600 respondents the survey contains plenty of interesting findings. I recommend you download the report and have a look.
