A soldier who fought in the Second World War has revealed that she’s decided to live as a woman at the age of 90, after a lifetime of denying her true gender.
Patricia Davies, from a village in Leicestershire, says she has known since the age of three that she was female but lived in fear that coming out would see her ostracised from her family, community or even land her in jail.
Despite being open with her late wife 30 years ago, Patricia – born Peter – decided to continue to live in the closet after teenagers spotted her wearing women’s shoes and hurled eggs at her home.
However, last year, the pensioner finally decided to begin transitioning and said: ‘It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was living a lie.’

See more in the link below, including the delightful Patricia speaking on video…

My initial reaction was of utter horror for Patricia, of hiding in the closet for the best part of her obviously productive life. I suppose I have a great deal of empathy for the woman who’s only support died after being together for over 60 years. Some of the comments made by Mail readers were indeed made around ignorance and hatred. I hope Patricia is able to enjoy the rest of her life as herself, a real heroine in my view.

Good post Josephine and the attached article with it well worth the read. Gives confidence to those of us, perhaps like me, who worry about getting older and wonder how we will deal with our need to be who we really are and dress the way we prefer as we age. Shows you that it is never too late. I read through a collection of the comments arising from this well written article and noted the level of support from a cross section of the respondents. As one would expect there were the usual redneck views expressed but on the whole they were very positive. Thank you for sharing this welcome and timely post. Regards Marian
