A CROSS-DRESSING stepfather sexually abused his young stepdaughter while wearing women’s underwear, a court was told yesterday.

The stepdaughter, now 30, told the Supreme Court in Hobart her stepfather would ask her to pull up the underwear to give him a “wedgie” after he had intercourse with her.

She also told the court he asked her to come home for lunch from school and she would find him doing housework in ra-ra skirts and high heels.

Her stepfather, who cannot be named for legal reasons, asked her to call him “Mum”, she said.

The stepfather, 54, has pleaded not guilty of maintaining a sexual relationship with a young person under the age of 17.

It is alleged he sexually abused his stepdaughter from 1983 to 1989 when she was between eight and 14 years old.

The stepdaughter told the court the sexual abuse began when she went to live with her stepfather at Rokeby.

She said he told her: “Daddy loves you, this is how Daddy loves you.”

The abuse continued when they moved to Bridgewater and then Clarendon Vale, she said.

The stepdaughter said that during the incidents she would “drift off”.

“I would think about what I was going to do the next day, who I was going to play with,” she said.

She said she told her stepfather “no” many times and he said it would stop if they “went all the way”.

    “He lied,” she said.

The abuse was “frequent” and only stopped when she told her mother what was happening during a visit to her home and she never went back to her stepfather.

Crown prosecutor Kate Brown told the jury in her opening address evidence would be heard of the stepfather asking another person to “tell her I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it and that it happened to him when he was little”.

The trial before Chief Justice Peter Underwood continues.

    Dear Amanda,
The Mercury story concerning the trial is of concern
in that the first emphasis and in upper case letters
is Cross Dressing. The accused must under our law be
innocent until proven guilty of the charges against
him:if he is guilty as charged then he is the lowest
of the low and deserves everything that will happen to
him. One point of the story that should be of concern
to everyone at the trial and maybe should have had an
editorial written to accompany the story is WHY when
the mother apparently knew of the offence did she and
the daughter wait sixteen years before doing anything
about it. May be this trial is worth following.
    Jeanette.
