How to make a Man look like a Woman

The art of female impersonation has been a longstanding tradition and done by many individuals over the years. There are a variety of different ways to do it, it can be a parody of the female form or it can be done with the idea of perfectly mimicking the beauty of women.

In this exercise, I will attempt to help the average male turn himself into a vision of a beautiful woman.

There is definitely a distinct difference between man and woman. I don’t want to get political in this, just stating the absolute fact. Men are usually taller, bulkier, hairier and generally bigger. If you are a male that doesn’t fit into this description then you are one of the blessed ones. However, many of us are not blessed with natural female features, so what we have been born with needs to be enhanced with the use of items such as makeup, wigs and body contouring garments.

We will break it down into the various areas that need to be enhanced and other areas that need to be hidden.

    Makeup tools needed:
    • Makeup Sponges
    • Makeup Brushes
    o Large for Powder application
    o Medium for Blush application
o Applicator sponges (like ear buds) – eyeshadow application
    o Lipstick brush

First of all, we need to look at the face. This is the first area that people look at when you are presenting yourself to the world. Yes, you will be going out and you need to look the part. Makeup is an essential tool that you will need to master to insure you will look like a woman. As with everything, you will need to practice. No one got it right the first time. The best way to determine what is right for you is to consult a makeup artist. They are there to give advice and I suggest you use this service. Most department stores have many different makeup counters and the girls who work there are trained to make their customers look as good as possible. Another good source of information is the internet and also Pinterest. There are some amazing tutorials out there and they are all designed to make it easier to apply the right makeup for your face structure. Just like learning how to ride a bicycle, you had to keep trying until you got it right and you didn’t run into a wall. The secret that is not widely promoted is – Less is more. In other words, don’t out it on like you have to use the whole tube in one application. Let’s start with a good shave, that’s right you need to get rid of the “Five O’clock Shadow”. This is essential for a good even look and will make sure your look is as feminine as possible. I suggest you use a good razor and make sure it is a fresh blade. When shaving go in a variety of directions not just down, but working all over the face. Shave up and sideways and down, this way you will get rid of as much of the stubble as you can. Run your fingers over your face to insure you get the smoothest result possible. Be careful as you don’t want to end up with a bloody face. Moisten the skin as much as you can and keep adding moisture so you don’t end up doing a dry shave. Okay, after you’ve gotten to this stage your face should feel nice and smooth and ready for the next step. I suggest you also wash your face with very cold water at this stage, it will help to close up the pores and give you a better surface to go to the next stage. But before we go here, make sure you work in a well-lit area. Good lighting is essential for successful makeup application. Okay now it’s time for Foundation. Foundation is the base for a successful look. Make sure you use a shade that is as close to your natural colouring as possible. This is also where the makeup artist can help as well, they can suggest the right shade for your skin tone. Initially I would suggest you use a cream foundation as this is the easiest to apply and enables good even coverage. Start out by applying dabs of foundation in a triangular pattern around the cheek area. Next take a makeup sponge and start the process of blending the dabs around to blend them together. Feel free to add more foundation as you need it. You will need to get an even blended coverage and make sure you don’t have any lines. Blend the foundation into all areas of the face, taking particular attention to the areas under your eyes and around you nose. Even cover your eyelids with some foundation as this helps to give a nice finish for your eyeshadow. Make sure you blend the foundation down your neck as well remembering that you want your face to look smooth and not blotchy. A good way to describe good foundation application is to compare your face to a blank canvas. If you start off with a “clean” canvas everything else will just look better. After you are happy with the results of the foundation, it’s best to set it with a powder. I suggest you use a shade that is a close match to your foundation. This helps to set the foundation in place and also takes off the “glow” or shine. We want to have a natural finish and look, and shiny is not natural. Okay, the next step in your beautification is the application of eyeshadow. The eyes are a very important part of the look and you need to work on this area with care. I prefer to use a powder eyeshadow, because it is easier to apply and control. Again, you will need to coordinate this with what you are going to be wearing. I would steer away from bright colours. Try to use muted tones that are soft and will help you to get the smoky eyed look. When buying eyeshadows, you can get pallets that have 3 different shades of the same basic tone. The reason for this is for application to different parts of the eyelid. There will be a light, medium and dark shade in the container. Start with the lightest shade and with your applicator brush start from the inside corner of the eye and work it from the inside to the outside keeping within the eye socket. Cover the whole eyelid with this shade and work it gently up towards your eyebrow. This is the base for the next shade. Taking another applicator brush, use the medium shade and cover the entire eyelid with this shade. Taking it to the middle of the eye area just below your brow bone. Blend it in. Now with the darker shade draw a line between the 2 other shades and gently blend them in together. Very simple and effective way to create a nice smoky look for your eyes. Now you just need to repeat the process on the other eye. Remember practice makes perfect. A simple suggestion is to use a different applicator sponge for each shade, this will help to keep the effect clean. Also tap the applicator before you apply the shadow that way any excess will drop into the shadow and not on your upper cheek. If you do get some specks of shadow dropping onto your upper cheek, brush it off gently with a large makeup brush that you use for your powder.

Okay, now we’re going to move on to the eyelashes. This is a tricky area and you will need a relatively steady hand. Some may say that we need to do eyeliner, well yes you can add this process, but remember we are the learner stages and eyeliner is a very tricky process and as we are trying to create a simple everyday look, eyeliner takes it to the next level and unless you are an artist I suggest you forego this process to begin with. Well, eyelashes then, there are many different types of mascaras on the market and you need to choose one based purely on the state of your eyelashes. Many men are blessed with long beautiful lashes and if you are one of those then I suggest just a normal mascara that will add colour and definition to your lashes. If you have thin lashes, then a volumizing mascara is the one for you. Whichever one you choose, start with the top lashes and gently work the brush from the base to the ends. Work from the inside to the outer edge and look up while you are doing it, this will help to keep your eyes open. Repeat this process for both upper lashes and you can apply 2 or 3 coats over the top of each other to add more volume to the lashes. On the lower lashes, you just need to lightly brush the applicator over the lower lashes gently distributing the mascara onto the lashes. This will help to accentuate your eyes. If you want a little more definition around your eyes then I suggest you use an eyeliner pencil and colour the inside of your lower eyelid just above the roots of the lashes and on the inside of the eye. This will take away that skin colour on your lower lashes. You just need to do a light application and try to stick to the lower part of the eye. I like to just put it on from the middle of the eye to outer edge. Not too much, but just enough to show through.

Well you are nearly there. Blush is the next step. This is a tricky one as well. Many people put on too much and end up looking like a clown. Now the trick is to not use too much and use a shade that is slightly darker than your foundation with not too much colour in it. When I say colour, what I mean is pinks and reds. Stick to chocolaty colours similar to a dark foundation, this way it will be easy to blend and look like you’ve had a touch of sun. Take your blush brush and lightly dab it in the blush and tap off any excess. Next, do a big closed smile and the apples of your cheeks will pop out, this is where you want to apply the blush. Brush it on in a circular motion, towards your temple in a teardrop shape with the fat portion of the teardrop at the bottom of your cheek. Also do light application down the middle of your nose and just a touch on your chin. Once you have done this, do a light dusting of powder all over your face and this will help set everything and blend the blush even better.

Lipstick, well this my friend is where your artistic skill will really have to come into play. You want it to look as natural as possible and not like it’s been slapped on with a trowel. To begin with you will need to decide on the best shade for you and your tones. You will have to experiment with this and again look to the internet for some inspiration. Pinterest is a great resource and has some great suggestions. You will need a lip pencil and lipstick. The lip pencil should be the same shade or even a slight shade darker that your lipstick. Holding your mouth in a natural state, relaxed and not pursed, you will see your natural lip line. Taking your lip pencil start at the top of cupid bow and gently draw a line down to the corner of your upper lip. Then do the same with the other side of your upper lip. Now draw a V between the two lines under your nose. You should have a line on your upper lip that looks like a bow. Now on your lower lip draw semi-circle from one corner to the next flowing the line of your lower lip. If you want fuller lips, you just need to draw the lines slightly outside the lip line. Now again the secret to this is the word slightly. Now when you are happy with the outline, take your lip brush and fill in the rest of your lips with your lipstick. The next step is to take a tissue and press this between your lips to help set the lipstick. This will help your lipstick to stay on longer. Now you just need to put another coat of lipstick on and gently push you lips together to help distribute the lipstick better.

You are now ready for the crowning glory. Unless you are blessed with a full head of hair that is long and cascading down your shoulders, you will need a wig. There are a variety of different styles and cuts out there. So, you need to decide what style best suits you. If you have a large face, then bigger hair will make your face seem smaller. But the most important factor you need to adhere to is hair colour. Your natural hair colour is the best one for you. This is because this is what you have been created with. Your natural skin tone is matched to your hair colour. That’s just how it is and as you get older both your skin tone and your hair colour changes. If you have a lot of grey hair then your skin tone has gone lighter to match your skin tones. That’s why black hair on older people looks out of place. Taking all this into consideration make sure you also try on a variety of different style, this will help you to determine what best suits your facial structure and also what looks best. Yes, you need to make it all look as natural as possible. This is the part I love, because when you put on your wig, it completes the picture and brings the girl out in your full glory. Wow, the rush you feel when you see her staring back at you is immense.

Next step is what to wear. We all have a favourite look and what we want to portray to the world. Remember, what’s in our head doesn’t always translate to a good look in reality. It’s always to plan your wardrobe around your age and what your plans are. If you plan on going outside, then you need to be dressed appropriately. A French Maids outfit, looks good in the bedroom, but not in the shopping center. Get my drift. Well now that we’ve covered that, let’s work from the inside out. If you are able to shave your legs, then this is where you start and I must add you are lucky. Otherwise it’s going to be either high denier tights or layers of pantyhose. Okay, I’m going to assume that you can’t shave your legs. Get some flesh coloured tights in about a 60 denier or higher. This will help to cover the hairy leg look. You will also need to get a waist cincher as you need to reduce the size of your waist and try to achieve the hourglass figure. I suggest an underbust type as this will also help in another area later. You will also need to get some padded panties, again this will help to create the hourglass figure. These aren’t essential just help in the illusion.
First of all, start with a sexy pair of panties, this is essential to getting into the mood and feeling feminine. You need to tuck yourself, this is accomplished pushing your balls up into their cavity and pull your penis down and between your thighs, now pull your panties up over all this to give yourself a semi flat profile. Take your flesh tights and roll them up your legs pull them up high on your waist and this will also help you with keeping your package in place. Now you can add another pair of pantyhose over the top to give you some colour. Next take you waist cincher and I suggest you get a size smaller than you would normally take this will help to pull in your waist even further. Bring it up to just under your breasts and if you have any loose flesh in your chest area this will want to spill over the top of the cincher. This is good, because this will help to add to your breasts. Next get a bra with the desired cup size you wish to portray. I go for a C cup. The band size it basically the measure around your chest just under your breasts. You may have to try on various sizes as they all have different measurements. I use a 38C and it gives me good support and good effect as well. When you have your bra on, try to pull as much of the loose flesh you have into the cups and do this while you are bent over. You will find the bra cups will be magically filled with the loose flesh you have created with the cincher. If you don’t have much loose flesh, then you will have to resort to enhancers and these are readily available at any lingerie store in a variety of sizes and prices. Again, go with the size that you wish to project. For the ultimate realistic effect, try to keep your breast size to as natural a look as possible. Also, there are a number of home remedies you can do to make your own breast fillers. Bird seed is a common filler – put into the toe of pantyhose works a treat. Experiment with the different amounts of bird seed to give yourself the best look. Finish this process off with a full slip. This will help to give you a smooth look under your outfit and help to pull everything together.

Okay, now you’re ready for your outfit. Depending on the look you are trying to achieve, pick something that will highlight your best features. Again, there are a number of resources on the internet to give you a guide as to what best suits your body type. Try not to wear things that are too tight as you are only going to highlight what you may not have, like wider hips. I like to wear layers as it helps to hide some things and gives a good illusion of having curves. Remember, we are trying to look as natural as possible. Depending on where you plan on going try to blend in as much as possible. Don’t wear a disco dress to the supermarket. I have found that the biggest fears we face are really all in our heads. If you are observant you will see that women come in all shapes and sizes. They wear a variety of different outfits and some look great and some are just downright hideous. You want to fall in the first category. The other thing I have found over the years is that people are normally so busy in their own little fog that they don’t really pay attention to what’s going on around them. If you wear clothing that’s appropriate for the occasion, you will go relatively unnoticed. Old saying goes, “If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.” Don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you from doing what your heart is telling you to do. Go out there and strut you stuff.

Well, you’ve now picked your outfit. The final touch is your shoes. These are the area that again gets neglected and should really match your outfit. Black is always safe and heel height is purely based on what you can handle. Keep it simple. A nice pair of black court shoes with a 3 – 4-inch heel will work with just about everything. Finding the right size is another challenge that many of us are faced with, but the internet has given us many more resources to use and if you are brave you can always just go into the local shoe store and ask for the range of the largest size they carry. You are now ready to conquer the world and show them that you who you are.

As I mentioned earlier our biggest fears are our own self-imagined fears. Just like in any situation in life you have to be careful. Don’t go into dark alleys, stay away from areas where you could get in trouble and you should be okay. Shopping centers are usually pretty safe. Many department stores will cater to you as most of the girls working are just looking for a sale and really don’t care who you are. Your money is just as good as the next persons and if they don’t want to serve you, then I suggest you just move on to the next store. We have so many places to choose from now and the level of acceptance is so much better than it has ever been. I have even found places that will let try on things when I am in drab mode. I carry a picture of myself and just show it to the staff and they are usually more than willing to help. In fact, some of them get really enthusiastic. It brightens up their normally dull existence.
Well my friends, I hope this has all been helpful and if it has even helps just one of us, then my job has been accomplished. Happy dressing and enjoy all the combinations of clothes you can put together. I truly feel that women’s clothes were designed to be worn for pleasure. That’s why there are so many sensory fabrics associated with them. One final word of advice, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look great. You can buy no-name brands in makeup, clothes and shoes that won’t break the bank. They do just as good a job as the name brands and some even perform better. Just remember you are trying to achieve a look and when you put it all together, stand back and admire the beauty of you.

When it comes time to remove all the makeup and get back to your boring boy mode I have a very effective a quick way to get the makeup off. Use baby wipes. They are gentle on the skin and very effective for getting even the most stubborn makeup off. This enables you to pass inspection and not get busted. Simple and very effective.

    Bye for now.

Thank you Jessica for an incredibly in-depth article. A lot of us in our early days didn’t really appreciate the importance of proper presentation in our dress and make-up. I am sure we have seen, usually young, sis girls inappropriately made up or dressed, so we are not alone in this.
In my own case I felt the need to disguise myself, using heavy make-up and dark hair. I am naturally light skinned and had fair hair, well, when I had some. It was only later, as I became experienced, that I appreciated the importance of matching foundation, shading and blending with the skin.
Dressing appropriately is also important. While dressing ‘down’ sometimes contradicts our desires to appear as feminine as possible we often have to do so as this contributes to our being able to blend, if not exactly pass perfectly.
Again, thank you for your contribution.

In depth and of great value, an excellent post. Me, I would prefer a Harry Potter magical wand that would transform me into something resembling an ageing beauty without the hassles of preening oneself with all the foundations, primers lippy. I’m lucky with hair, I have it all, thinning a little but nevertheless it’s all there. My hairdresser works magic with scissors, hairdryer, and enormous brushes. Having said all that I will persist with my lazy, slacking version of hit, and often miss makeup.

A great article Jessica, well done. I’m sure everyone would get at least something out if it regardless of how experienced they are.

We have a nightclub here called Horizons….the operators of this establishment would tell you it is called that because it has massive windows that look straight over the beach in a westerly direction which is sensational at sunset. Personally, I think it is because everyone, including me, looks great from a distance. Clubbing around can sometimes require bolder than usual makeup application to stick out from the crowd xx
