gender card to assist girls purchase without feeling uneasy
Posted by Anonymous on 04/05/2006 at 2:47 amjust a thought i had. wHAT DO YOU ALL THINK OF THE IDEA OF HAVING A GENDER CARD SET UP LIKE VISA EXCEPT IT WOULD HAVE SAY A SEAHORSE LOGO. iDEA BEEING THAST THIS BE DISPLAYED AT CLOTHING STORES THAT ARE TRANSGENDER/CROSSDRESSER FRIENDLY. yOU WOULD THEN WALK UP AND SHOW THE GIRL AT COUNTER YOUR CARD KNOWING THAT SHE IS TRAINED TO RESPECT AND UNDERSTAND AND HELP. It may involve them giving a set time out to try on clothes in store maybe just go and do it easy if dressed. A fee small one could be charged to get card and maybe some discount scheme along way could be arranged with the sellers willing to be involved

Guest04/05/2006 at 4:06 amDon’t feel uneasy..you are the customer and it’s your money!! Most sales assistants really couldn’t care less what you buy..they just scan it and you pay. The big stores must train their staff to never question or embarass the client as I have never been questioned “Is this for you??” … I have had a couple say “these are pretty” but never ever have they questioned my purchase. If you want to try on garments and are in male mode, just drape them over your arm and go into a change room and try them on.
Just be confident that you have the right to buy anything you desire and it’s highly unlikely that anyone will comment.
I doubt whether stores will agree to “special training” as you will find that most already train staff not to embarass the customer in any way during a sale transaction as it’s common business sense.
If you are shopping in smaller boutiques and you are asked if you need help say “yes, I’m looking for a frock like this for myself ..do you have it in a 16?” Any shop owner with a quarter of a brain will know that the guy browsing thru the racks isn’t looking for men’s jackets and they will treat you with respect cos they want the sale.

Guest04/05/2006 at 1:18 pmMy experience is that the only thing getting in the way of shopping is my own anxiety. At a boutiqu in Stirling Gate the dales assistant went out of her way to help and she said come back at any time and made me feel very welcome.
I have been to that shop both dressed fem and in drab mode, it made no difference apart from enjoying it more in fem mode. The fem trip was my birthday present to myself.

Guest05/05/2006 at 6:48 amJust a hint..if you feel nervous about the experience, going with a friend (preferably another CD) will boost your confidence and the next time you will feel perfectly comfortable “going it alone”.
As they say …the first time is the hardest -

Guest05/05/2006 at 10:06 amI agree with the others you can shop with ease virtually anywhere.
The only card I want is a Visa card in my femme name. In the 80s I had one but I believe the new id system makes it more difficult? Does any one have a credit card their femme name – and I talking about those who haven’t changed their name legally.

Fiona,
I had no trouble getting a credit card with my initial “A” rather than male first name. That is the card only says A Blogs on the front.
As both of my names start with A and my signature on the back is indecipherable I have no problem using the crdit card as Amanda. -

Guest05/05/2006 at 11:36 amThanks Amanda.
I haven’t been quite so good with my planning of names. But I guess that may not matter – a straight initial without title is the easy way to go.

Guest07/05/2006 at 12:41 amHi ladies,
I have been discussing the problems/delights of shopping for clothes etc. with my two dear friends Amanda and Bambi.
May I suggest that if you are feeling uneasy, ask your friend to buy it for you. And vice versa. Show your freind/partner what you want and then leave it for them to buy it for you.
Leave the store. This will separate you from the actual purchase transaction and the ‘buyer’ can act as if is a gift for someone else.
Granted, trying on will be an issue. If you are that anxious, have you freind buy it, take it home and try it on and return to swap if necessary.
Convaluted, granted, but it removes the risk and nerves.
And there’s always ebay and mail order.
Happy cd’ing

Guest24/06/2006 at 9:16 pmI generally go shopping with my partner. It’s wonderful when you see something and she likes it as well. So you buy two. It’s even a giggle when you get to the checkout with two pair of lovely ladies shoes , one in size 8 (for her) and one pair in size 10 (guess who?). The counter staff never ask. We are lucky in that we are both size 16-18 in tops and 16 for jeans and skirts.
We could very well be looking at items we like for me, and C will size it off against me no matter who is standing around. I used to get nervous about that, but now it is so relaxing, and shopping together makes it fun for both of us.
I guess in a sense I am lucky to have a partner who is so active and accepting.
Love to all

Guest24/06/2006 at 11:21 pmIts really good to be able to go with your partner, Hehe, I used it, we used to go into stores and when nobody was looking she’d hold clothes up aganist me!!
But Yes, I think having a card from a seahorse club and having the card know in some serval stores will be a GREAT idea … Not only will it give cd/ts/tg more confidence knowing that they can go somewhere that they will be treated good, and knowing before they get there that the store and stuff will be really nice and helpful to them!! It could also inpact the stores business a lot too! so I think they’d like the idea too! Because a sale of a item, is more money for them !!
Infact, I would not have a problem going into stores and talking to store managers about this idea, and see if I could setup something …
And anyway! When your in a clothes shop with the genreal public, are the other customers really looking for a men in a dress? .. or they looking at clothes to buy?
I know what I’d be looking for!! since I love my clothes shopping so much!
BUT if anyone is interested, and would also wish to help me, or back me up, I have no problems going into a store as me (anee) (btw: Im RLT at the moment now) and speaking to the store manager about it .
Anyone wanna give me a list of there favourite shops? … Also If I can get enuff interest in this, I will start a new thred on what shops/where/your fav, what shops you WANT to go to .
Im in QLD, So I could only really do Brisbane sunshine coast, and maybe gold coast .
Anyway, Let me know your thoughts, Im currenty not working at the moment, because I’ve stop my own buesniess now, so yeah, now would be the best time for me to do it! Back me up girls!!
Love, Anee
