Our Community Support
Posted by Anonymous on 10/09/2007 at 11:10 amI had s little trouble finding a web designer and the thought about if the transgender community had anyone. I was in a rush and had to find someone quickly so I did not post a request on this site but did make a couple of calls to some similar groups without success.
In this thought, I would like to make a suggestion. To create a business and/or service directory for any member who has a business, service or interest that can be of benifit to our group in any form like sparkies, dressmakers, plumbers, what ever
Keeping it in the family so to speak

While I like the idea in theory, I’d be concerned that a lot of girls who aren’t completely out may not be prepared to list themselves on such a directory for fear of being publically outed and the negative impact that might have on their business and personal life.
Personally, I have a 4″ high sparkly seahorse fridge magnet located prominently on the side of a filing cabinet in my office but I don’t think that anybody has ever really taken any notice.

Guest11/09/2007 at 12:46 amI like your thought Georgette. “Keeping it in the family†where there is a network of trust and cooperation makes family businesses stronger. Business Networking is now becoming a very successful marketing strategy. If we were to form a business directory and choose to obtain services from within our own community, this would, at least in a small way give members of our community greater business success and cohesion. Thus making it easier to operate in the greater community in their gender of choice. This could also be a way for supporters of the tg community (e.g. Closet tgs) to make the first step to a be part of the community without explicitly outing themselves.
So how about we turn your thought into an action Georgette? Let’s conspireAnnie

Guest11/09/2007 at 8:54 pmI carnt see why that wouldnt work I suppose – there are already many gay friendly, Lesbian Friendly, pet friendly and every other type of “friendly” businesses promoted on the net, so why not TG/TS/CD friendly too ? just because a business lists there doesnt mean that the staff or owner is a member of that community – its just advertising a service or good.
My 2 cents worth……

Guest14/09/2007 at 2:46 amThere are a few girls out there who are maybe semi retired, on a pension etc who could require extra earnings to buy clothes, hormones, save for a operation etc.
I know of some out there who are of limited income who want to transgender but cannot because of lack of $. They have a small workshop and maybe capable of producing income to go forward rather than be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
There are also those whose love one have deserted them and are all alone but may have skills some one else in our comunity may need
We can catagorise for example
1, Girls offering products and services
2, TG friendly outlets owned by TG, gay and lesbian owners
3, TG friendly outlets not owned by TG, gay and lesbian ownersThe directory can be closed or open subject to discussion
Amanda Can we have your input to see what you think?
I know there is a lot of information on this site but a one stop directory would keep everything together as well.Georgette

Guest16/09/2007 at 8:37 amAs well as any eventuality for such a directory on TR, if any Brisbane girls or supporters would like to list their business, skills or products somewhere, please consider http://www.brisbanetgirls.com. It’s free and google friendly. You can never have too much free promotion.
