I have three human hair wigs that I love. I have had them for 10 years and sadly they were starting to self-destruct and in one case I hastened the process by brushing a bit too fiercely! At first, I was quite distraught; did this mean I would have to buy new wigs? I did not like that idea as all of my wigs had been cut and styled by a local hairdresser and apart from the cost of new wigs, I did not want to go through all the many iterations it took to achieve perfection. So I looked into finding a repairer who could restore my wigs to original or, if possible, better condition than the originals.

My research led me to a lady in Tasmania called Rachel Walker who said she could only give me a quote if I sent the damaged wig to her. I selected my least valuable wig and sent if off to her by Australia Post. She soon came back with two quotes: one for a minimal repair and another for a “full” repair. Her fee is $65 an hour so I took the cheaper one.

In summary, I was very impressed with her work and sent the other two down to her, one at a time, and gave her licence to do everything needed to make them like new. She did that and also reinforced them making them a lot stronger. She offered to make me a custom wig from scratch that would be for me personally (she makes a cast of your head to begin) and claimed it would last much longer that the commercial ones. However, at a minimum of 100 hours to complete, I was scared away by the potential cost. Maybe when I am rich and famous haha! ☺

My bottom line is that I would recommend Rachel to anyone with a human hair wig in need of repair. Yes she is expensive, but I felt there was real value for money in what she did and am very happy with my “new” wigs. I would certainly use her again, if the need arose.

Have a look at her website:
