I came across this on Same Same this week, thought it may be of interest

Stu Rasmussen, the transgender mayor of Silverton, Oregon USA and America’s first transgender mayor, has been criticised by the local council for wearing “inappropriate clothing” while visiting a youth leadership training event.

According to Pinknews.co.uk a complaint was received after Rasmussen made the visit wearing a high heels, a very short skirt and a halter top. According to Brenda Sturdevant, the Director of Silverton Together, a non-profit family advocacy group, the outfit revealed “much of his bosom, shoulders and back” and that the choice of clothing was in violation of the city council’s dress code.

“This puts Silverton Together in a position that will be difficult to defend when we have sent our youth home on various occasions to change into something more appropriate,” said Sturdevant. “I expect our public leaders to follow the same guidelines that we have for our youth.”

Rasmussen was surprised by the complaint, initially thinking that it was a joke. When he realised it was genuine he wrote a rebuttal.

“It is surprising and disappointing that an organisation chartered to promote diversity and cultural understanding would take a public position of intolerance,” Rasmussen said.

According to Statesman Journal Rasmussen identifies as a heterosexual man but expresses her gender as female and has had breast surgery. He was elected as mayor last autumn and has served as mayor twice before, elected in 1988 and again in 1990, before undergoing breast surgery.

During his latest election he said: “I am a dude. I am a heterosexual male who appears to be a female.” He also told kgw.com: “Some guys’ mid-life crisis is motorcycles or sports cars or climbing mountains or trophy wives or whatever. I always wanted cleavage, so I went out and acquired some.”

Hey thanks Anthea in an interesting sort of way quite inspirational. Basically what the TR girls say often say, don’t worry what anyone says, do you own thing and get on with your life as you want to lead it. Probably more exposure than I’d want but hey. Alanna

once again someone’s idea of morals gets in the way of common sense, viewing the video of the Mayor of Silverton I see nothing wrong in what she was wearing and in fact she makes a great female mayor. I think some people can’t help themselves from complaining, so as long as the people who voted her in are not upset let her do the job.

I saw that article on Sunrise a week or so back. There was the usual tittering from the crew although Barretts did concede that she had great legs. And I reckon her boob job was fantastic too.

There was a TG character on “Bones” last night (Sunday 9th). I thought I’d watch because this sounded good to have a mainstream show with one of us in it. Once again the attitude was patronising, culminating in a pathetic finish where one of the attractive female regulars gives he/she (that’s how they always referred to her except for one male character) a big hug and comes back and smugly announces that she’s a he because “she felt it move”. Give me a break. At least the TG character was very attractive and had a serious role but it was ultimately used as a gimmick.

We’ve still got a long way to go girls!

And SBS had a program on an all male hula group in Hawaii.

Here is my 2 cents worth and will differ from many I am sure.

I think its wonderful she is living life the way she wants. :)

However I don’t see too many mayors on official duties getting around in clothes like that. I feel its fine for wearing in her own time or socialising as there is nothing basically wrong with it. However even though it was very hot, she should have worn something more appropriate to an official function or while working. As an elected official, she should have known better.

    Just my opinion.
