    private insurance

    hey girls i have a few questions about private health care. i’ve had basic cover for a long time now but i’m considering raising my coverage if they will reduce costs associated with HRT/Transition things.

    i do have a government health care card so that will help a little but there are a lot of varied services to consider so what i’m asking is there anything in coverage i should specifically look for? i’m starting to budget and it’s worth paying for the extra cover if it will make things cheaper.

    i don’t have a preference for any company just looking for the best coverage to take care of me in the long term so hopefully medical costs will be less of an issue.

    thanks maddy

    Hi,

    This is something you should ask your health fund as all policies with different providers are different. I distribute wheelchairs and my customers tell me that some company’s do help with funding on those items and some do not it all, depends on the fund and policy.

    I’ve been reading up on Breast Augmentations and I read that health funds do not help with those as they are considered elective. I feel they would say the same about HRT/Transition? Although I do not agree that its elective.

    I have a Health Care Card too and I can assure you its saves me plenty in doctors fees, prescriptions and blood tests. Do use it.

    With medications, many are cheaper if your doctor gives you a ‘private script, rather than a standard NHS perscription.

    Firstly you with receive a larger quantity, and then most Health funds will give you a refund for anything above the basic NHS prescription cost, which with some medications can be a significant saving. You will need to discuss this with your GP and then the Health Fund

    The cost of Elective/Cosmetic surgeries may not be covered by insurance, but the cost of the hospital accommodation should be. Also, some funds will fully cover the cost of Day Procedures whilst others won’t

    Certainly you need to shop around
