I know this is something my endocrinologist keeps an eye especially around the ankles, t hough I’ve never had to ask any info on it.
Apparently it’s common with HRT, it’s always best to be taking the lowest doses of estrogen, just enough to keep your levels in check. Too much just gets converted back to T and can also cause problems. Considering a progesterone can help but that is a personal choice.

Here are some tips I found….

A healthy digestive and a gastro-intestinal system are the keys to good health. It begins with the first bite. Proper digestion depends on the proper secretion of digestive enzymes and the digestive system’s ability to assimilate and absorb foods. Most health problems begin here. No matter what foods are eaten, everything in our diets are composed of proteins, carbohydrates and fat, sugars, and fiber. The essential digestive enzymes (protease, amylase, lipase, disaccharidase and cellulase) are necessary to break then down during digestion. Without adequate enzymes, people become intolerant to certain foods, which leads to a whole host of food allergies. When the enzyme deficiency is left untreated, serious health problems inevitably result.

Enzyme deficiencies include a compromised immune system, chronic infections, fluid retention, chronic constipation, hypoglycemia, moodiness, depression, irritability, anxiety, impaired bone metabolism leading to osteoporosis, blood clots, allergic reactions, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and varicose veins.

After a quick scan of foods than are connected to such enzymes I saw ginger, fruit particularly oranges and fibre/cereal..obviously unprocessed will do a better job.

    Hi,
I am a natural medicine student as well as prior researched over a decade.
I have fiddled with varicose veins and various products to solve this problem including the above. Some others are Horse chestnut, venotone from lefe-enhancement.com anf european leg solutions from LEF.org.
These products did solve the problem to a large degree and was quite notable but increasing estrogen levels did agravate it.
When I was on synthetic hormone replacement my legs also felt tight as in reduced circulation.
I even had to limit my natural hormone replacement as it has similar feelings in the legs.
Now I can take natural hormone replacement daily if I wanted to with out this circulation issue.
    How is it done?
Before I became a student I was experimenting with natural raw foods and this continued into student life, part time. What I have learned is a remaining pieces of a massive jisaw puzzle and all that prior student material clicked into the studies with no objection. Both fitted like a glove.
So armed with more information I applied more raw products, super foods and increased to 60% vegetables, raw and organic where possible.
I drink 1-2 liters of good water first up with some other prefood products. And do a maintaince detox.
This has reduced the varicose veins a heck of a lot.

It goes back to what you eat. How good is it. Fast food companies and supermarkets sell spiked foods. How do you like you coke in the bar spiked with another product. Well the supermarkets etc are doing that to you. The bad laced and spiked foods are one of the major causes of disease on earth. This includes GMO’s, smoking, excessive drinking etc etc. MSG killing brain cells. Aspartame as well.
Don Tolman says there is one disease on this planet. It is atomic chaos. All diseases come from atomic chaos. This atomic chaos is in you veins. To reduce atomic chaos will help reduce reduce/elimate varicose veins.
    Clean up your diet !!!!

What most people have forgotten is their basic physiology/anatomy. Arteries are high pressure vessels & veins are low pressure. There is not enough pressure in a vein to return blood back to the heart, especially from the lower limbs. But do not despair, as Mother nature has found a way to over come this problem. First veins are soft walled and therefore can be compressed, especially by the surrounding muscles. Secondly veins have valves – which arteries do not have. If the valves are competent then they only allow blood to flow in one direction – that is back to the heart. Hunter demonstrated this fact back in the 1700’s. You can demonstarte this on the back of your own hand.

The problem with HRT, especially with oestrogen, is fluid retention. If there is enough fluid retained then the volume of the circulatory system is enlarged & that causes the veins to dilate – remember they are soft walled. If the veins are dilated sufficently then the valves can become incompetent & that allows blood to flow backwards when the vein is compressed by the surrounding muscles. Thus varicose veins develop – as defined by the term; dilated tortuous veins.

Elevating the legs, external compression (various forms of stockings) & diuretics ( spironolactone for example) all help.

Unfortunately once a venous valve becomes incompetent, then nothing will help to restore its competency.

There are other causes of varicose veins of course, pregnancy is the commonest, also a congential incompetency of the valve at the junction of the femoral vein with the long saphenous vein, plus anything that restricts the flow of blood back from the legs to the heart. Plus many others.

Unfortunatley once established diet or other any other modifications cannot cure the problem.Laser, injections (sclerotherapy) & surgical procedures can all help but they all have their limitations & side effects. Therefore if you are seeking treatment for varicose veins then please talk to your GP.

I agree with Jeorgette that a healthy balanced diet, cessation of smoking & the limitation of alcohol are the cornerstones of good health. However, atomic chaos? – is that just another name for Brownium motion?

Oestrogen actually weakens the vessel wall and lack of muscular activity in the legs can lead to varicose veins. Biological women have much higher oestrogen levels and like anyone else, if they sit or stand all day they too will develop varicose veins (have a look at your mother’s/ sister’s legs). HRT is irrelevent to developing varicose veins, It is the lack of activity that reduces the muslces ability to push the blood back through the circulatory system. When you next visit your doctor, and your doctor is female, ask her to show you her legs and the results of her sitting all day.
Your veins rely on muscle activity to push the blood through the vessels towards the heart. The veins have one way valves that stop the blood from going backwards. If the valves of the veins are not so good it will ‘back pool’ leading to varicose veins Many of my older former sedentary male patients had worse varicose veins than most of my female patients.
My advice is get some exercise, don’t cross your legs so much, use support hose, and if you are really worried, as k your doctor if perhaps you might benefit from a daily dose of asprin.

Can’t speak for HRT, I can’t use it because of shocking cardio vascular problems. Varicose veins? once they’re there, not much you can do. As Lesa said, ‘wear support stockings’ and to cover unsightly veins wear opaques. Not as good nor attractive as 8 denier on nice healthy legs, but still, we find alternatives.

    Hi Liz,
I too have varicose veins, And yes HRT does make it worse. It is best not to get them. You are in control.
I have been aware with these varicose veins for years and tried many products with some benefits but not enough to dramitically change them until reciently.
The reduction in estrogen does reduce varicose veins but there is something far more beneficial.
Forn most people to reduce varicose veins they need a life style change.
The body is very acidic and a alkaline enviroment will reduce and slow down the aging process dramitically.
I have tested this on myself and found general foods are processed, chemically laden and acidic and cause inflamation and lead to the vast majority of diseases today.
You need to eat alkaline foods and target the body into the just alkaline region.
You need to eat whole foods, mainly vegetables and this will change varicose veins and it is not a overnite wonder. It is a way of life. There are also some flower essences that help, That subject is still some distance away in my natural medicine course.
Relieve the pressure but elevavating your legs while watching TV.
To be effective, horse chestnut, fresh raw vegetables, eat organic, stay away from sugar, even limit fruit and a alakaline the body would be a good start.
I have delibertly yo-yo’ed between raw foods and supermarket foods and watched my varcose veins reduce and increase. Directly proportional.
For those who smoke, drink and eat heavily processed foods and more
Genes can be switched on and off. Each person is different but polution, chemicals in food, processed foods can activate genes that cause a wide range on diseases including varicose veins, cancers etc.
Genes that have been switched on, can also be switiched off.
Read a book called the “The China Study”. Get a overall view by Googleing it
I used to laugh at those with a celery stick and letuce {and more of course} and loved my “T bone steak” I take that back.
Now I look more forward to a green organic vegetable juice. Now I feel a lot better than ever. Now steak is very very occasional. Meat is very acidic and varicose veins take a beating if I have it.
