PayPal advises that there is now a way to shop from US stores that may have been previously inaccessible to us here in Australia using http://www.HopShopGo.com

    Quote:
The online wall between Australian buyers and American online stores has fallen. Thanks to PayPal and HopShopGo you can now get your hands on all the latest U.S. names and products.

HopShopGo is a new global shopping site available exclusively to PayPal members. It allows you to buy directly from over 300 000 U.S. online stores.

They provide 2 very useful services:
    ShipForMe

    Quote:
HopShopGo gives you an address in the U.S. to send your purchases to if the store you’ve purchased from doesn’t ship to Australia, and then HopShopGo ships it to you at a competitive rate.

    BuyForMe

    Quote:
If you favourite store doesn’t accept PayPal or Australian Credit Cards, HopShopGo can make your purchase for you for a small 7% fee, which is applied to your checkout total. They will also repackage purchases from different stores so you may save on shipping costs.

I haven’t used this service, and I’m not getting any kickbacks from PayPal for posting this. I’m providing this info in the hope that it may help others. I have occasionally wanted to buy something from the US only to find that they don’t sell to Australia. This provides a method around those limits.

    Caveat emptor, YMMV

Interesting use of the word small! Its all relative I suppose – they want us to consider the payPal fee of 2 – 3% as being minuscule I guess!

the “small fee” is relative. there are many other mail forwarders in the us that do this – some even supply you with a us land line # to go with your street address (the only things that seem to be missing are a green card and an illegal immigrant cleaner/gardener) :D

so depending on your level of spending, this one could be quite good. i would check out the shipping charges too. i have found some places that charge a fixed fee of usd50 for shipping irrespective of quantity and weight, through to some places that make the shipping many times more expensive than the items purchased (baaaad lessons learned!).

also, by using pay pal, there may be some limits on how you get to pay, as opposed to other merchants. still, there is the security of dealing with a bona fide transaction manager (know anyone who has been ripped off on ebay?).

Hi everyone, first post here and I love the forum so far.

Last week I was on the hunt for a new pair of boots and when I went to both Zappo’s and Nine West, they both required a US postal address. Someone on another forum recommended that I try http://www.borderlinx.com. All I did was sign up and they gave me both as US & a UK address including phone number. They also have a cost calculator which is very helpful. Now as Nine West have fashionable boots and shoes in larger sizes (up to Womens 12US) I went with them. Then I realised that their online system has no way of entering overseas addresses for billing details. This is another snag you need to be aware of when ordering from some US sites as they crosscheck your address with your credit card records for security.
Fortunately, Nine West have a wonderful customer support line (open 16 hours a day) which I called and they took all my details and processed the order and will ship to borderlinx for free. I hope to have my boots soon and I will let everyone know how it all went.
