Guest28/06/2014 at 1:27 amHi Abbie,
I use Kryolan “TV stick”. (An interesting double meaning in that I believe it is used at least on males when they appear on camera on TV).Google that and you should find a local supplier
It even comes in various shades whereby you can use “light and shade” to mask things like my big male chin. (Have the “tools”, have yet to master the “trade”).
There’s also a Dermablend product which I have used in the past, but having used Kryolan for some time, cant remember much about it.
My biggest “hide” is the bushy male eyebrows. I’m finally becoming good enough to cover them with paper glue without putting stacks of coats on to cover my brows. Two seems to do it these days. Then the Kryolan over the glue, then liquid eyeliner to create some nice thin brows.
Then of course the hair style must come down as far as possible over my forehead to aid the “disguised” brows.
Getting the paper glue off requires patience, lots of make up remover and an old toothbrush. Also inadvertently does a bit of eyebrow thinning!!!
Hope this helps.

Guest28/06/2014 at 3:31 amHi,
Yes, Kryolan and Dermablend are the two products to use, and with that there is some practice required so you will need to be patient and practice, practice, practice!
Also the best razor i have found is the Gillette fusion which has 5 blades and gives the closest shave I have found.
I also recommend finding a friendly make up artist who could help you with coverage, color etc.
Hope this helps,
Kelly.

Hi Kelly,
I’ve had a great professional make up artist now for over a year, unfortunately getting the “Stars” to align for me to get to see her for a makeover/photo session is very difficult.
If you check out my albums under Lady Catherine debut, you’ll see the results of last years. My profile photo is from this year.

I agree with the advice here. I have a light beard, going mostly grey now! I’ve used kryolin on the beard (an orange colour counteracts the blueness of the beard) around the upper lip and chin and cover the rest of my face with natural skin colour foundation. I’ve been using a dark foundation to contour my face lately to help reduce the male chin and big nose!! And need lots of practise!

I’ve struggled for ages with beard shadow without much success. I don’t like heavy make-up. It’s okay for photos but not for going out. Last year I had the beard zapped by laser and for a few months it was light enough to allow me to use normal foundation or even mineral make-up. This year despite more laser it has come back a bit darker. I’ve surrendered to the inevitable and am booked in for my first electrolysis session on Friday.

Guest04/07/2014 at 6:10 amI did see a professional make up artist as well. He said , to combat the blue 5oclock, to use an orange concealer. It works great, but a close shave is required. I too prefer the Gillette fusion shaver, not electric. Having had around a dozen laser, and I don’t know how much electro since December last year, I don’t really have much dark facial hair left, so the concealer is not really a problem for me now.

Guest04/07/2014 at 9:17 amI forgot to mention in my post that a cheap red lipstick under your foundation will do the job of covering your beard too, you can find this info if you type it in to a youtube search.

Guest24/07/2015 at 2:34 pmAfter years of struggling with a twin-blade razor, I just upgraded to a modern multi-blade razor. It’s made a world of difference to get a closer shave & smoother surface, which really helped me. Combined with the Mac Pro Full Coverage foundation my 5 o’clock shadow is much less noticeable now than it’s ever been.

But friends in the US advise the use of MAC. It can be purchased on-line or in David Jones here. It seems comparable in cost to most good make-up cover.
