Am I too old fashioned?
Posted by Anonymous on 24/05/2010 at 11:20 pmI’ve had enough of the deep and meaningfuls for a while, so at the risk of appearing like a complete airhead…
In the late 80s I spent a year in Antarctica and found that I was the only person on station who hadn’t brought their own teddy bear/s. In 2001 I went again and this time I was the only person who had brought their own teddy bears!
Currently I live with Greenie, Schubert, Gundy, Beary Bear, Graham, Mufti (who still has my baby teeth marks in his plastic nose) and TB (tranny bear). TB and I sleep together (unless my luck changes- but then I wouldn’t be adverse to a threesome).
So who else is into Teddy Bears? Or dolls? Or…?

Guest25/05/2010 at 12:14 amOh that is so CUTE Felicity! I don’t have any teddy bears or anything of that nature myself but I do have my pets, one dog and two birds at this point. I talk to them as they are people and they’re great.
For the record, “Moe” is a Chihuahua cross Minature Foxy, “Bluey” is a Rosella and “Nellie” is a Budgie.
Come on girls, tell us about your teddy bears, dolls or….This is a fun thread, it brought a smile to my face!
Peta A.
P.S. I also have my ute, Little Miss Peta as I call her, she’s a part of me, very much so.

Guest25/05/2010 at 8:12 amYou have reminded me that today I cut the eyes out of a teddy ( I want them for a sculpture, there is no fetishistic intent here honest! AND it came from Vinnies) and I felt a pang of guilt, it felt a tad perverse.
Hope it isn’t a crime ” Christina Mann, you have been found guilty by this Court that you did perversely and willfully deprive a Teddy of its eyes, you are to be taken to a place of execution and there …etc”
I digress, to answer the question ,yes I have a Teddy and like to wear it as often as I can!! -

Guest25/05/2010 at 9:17 pmSolomon is my best mate. He has the most gorgeous pot belly sits at my work station and makes wise pronouncements. Pepper, like myself is a technophobe. We stress out together when the computer does things we don’t understand. I’m currently cross-stitching a golden teddy for my grandson Deklan. Teddy Bears ARE real people. Solomom told me so.
The garden is my aviary where a family of Wattle Birds reside, and sing joyously when the citrus is in flower; and Cockatoos and Corellas visit when the mood takes them. Roger, the Cairn Terrier, is learning that he’s the king and chases away all bad witches. Careful where you walk, that you don’t step on a bone

Guest26/05/2010 at 6:50 amTeddy bears are so cute! I have always loved teddy bears.
As with many children, I had 2 teddy bears as a child. I can still see them in my mind’s eye as clearly as if it was yesterday, and I still miss them. Unfortunately, my mum threw them out when I was about 12; she said they were “too worn out”.
As an adult male, I started to buy teddy bears without appearing to be un-manly, by buying charity bears. I still copped some strange looks from colleagues because whenever I was stressed, I would put a little teddy bear on my desk at work. He helped me cope.
When I go to visit my mum who lives in the Hunter Valley, we sometimes go to to Morpeth Teddy Bears, a shop in an old converted house which choc-a-block full of teddy bears. I want to buy so many!
Now I have half a dozen bears of various sizes.

Guest26/05/2010 at 11:16 pmI have lots of teddies. I have my first one who is also over fifty now, and in good condition, plus many many more. We tend to get a new bear from everywhere in the world we visit, and they are all in our bedroom. Now, if teddy bears could talk……

Guest27/05/2010 at 1:13 amI had a bear for a while. A leather one. He was from Cootamundra and so cute. Turned out to be a boring bear though with everything over and done with for too soon.

Yes,
I too have a bear (Buddy) and he travels with me all the time. So when the room gets made up in the morning there is a bear on the bed (who gets placed carefully back when the bed is made) plus all the things that make me Alana. Funny I used to hide everything including ‘Buddy’, but he complained about having to hide so i if the bear stays so does Alana. Speaking of which my regular hotel in Melbourne knows me now as both. Scary first time but amazing afterwards. Ahh the small steps we take in heels. Thankyou Buddy -

Guest21/09/2010 at 5:09 amI have recently been joined by a new bear called Beany. When I took him home from Vinnies he was half sticking out of my day pack. Two blokes in a truck passed by me while I was waiting to cross at the lights, and one yelled out, “Hey! It’s Mr Bean!” I got a lot more strange looks with a teddy bear sticking out of my pack than I ever did walking down the street dressed!
I have become somewhat enamoured of a lovely GG of late and Beany and TB have to sit on my glory box on the other side of the bedroom. They are not amused!

Guest21/09/2010 at 11:37 amOver the years, I have had a few teddy bears and other assorted animals. Many I have surrendered to my kids, other peoples kids, ex girlfriends and ex partners.
In addition to having a soft spot for cushions and pillows (my bed can be a bit crowded) one teddy has seen me through a few years. An ex partner once gave me a BB (bondage bear) for my birhtday because she said it reminded her of me. I have no idea where she got that from because I have never done that sort of thing, (cough) but we were only together for a short time and she knew about my dressing. Sometimes messages get a bit mixed up. He is rather cute and quite often becomes the center of conversation when people spot him for the first time.
I also have a genuine Ted-E-Bear from David Strassman’s Farewell Tour. It talks and reminds me of a wonderful night out. I also have Pooh and Eeyore (complete with removable tail) and an assortment of other less memorable “toys”.
I am generally a sucker for how a teddy bear feels more so than it’s looks, but sometimes a cute look is much more compelling to buy. It’s nice to cuddle into something soft and warm and doesn’t criticise or complain or demand. BB is purely for looks (soooo cute) as he is not cuddy at all. LOL.

Guest21/09/2010 at 2:09 pmI have the teddy bear I got at birth which I surprisingly named “Teddy”. It was a gift from my maternal grandfather, (who I never met), and was made in England in 1950. It still plays Brahms’ Lullaby note perfect when you press its tummy.
They don’t make toys like that these days and it’s my favourite possession.

My Mum bought a bunch of bears and dressed them up like my family. For my bestie’s bear, she made a tiny little rainbow waistcoat.
