I was reading through our code of conduct book and noticed it said that it was an EEO employer and that it then listed racial, sexual, and transgender.

I was rather surprised, as I would of thought that would of been covered in the sexual arena (can’t discriminate against a female or a male kind of thing).

It made me wonder if someone had transitioned, and something either had happened, or that they’ve sat down and now have a procedure for helping with transition.

As I start on the slow road of transition, I’m trying to find out the information, so I can start planning towards it, so would love to hear from someone who may of transitioned through WW.

    Thanks

HI Honey, it was only on Friday that i was at my local Coles store with a mall attached, and noticed the young person cleaning the windows. I couldn’t tell the sex, but i noticed a bulge under his/her shirt, in front suggesting breasts. Not sure what Coles policy is.

Hi there Girls, Honey a major company such as Cole/woolworths will have a policy.

There is a certain amount of lesgislative protection but there is a bit of a loop hole, whilst they cannot discrininate against gender, we are caught in two worlds, the law will only recognise you as a woman once the recognition certificate has been issued and that can only be issued once you have had the final GRS/SRS.

Which basically means you will be that, the time living in the RLT you will have no protection but I have been assured that major companies will have policies to help deal with this situation.

As you may be aware I am about to commence my transition and the dept has been given a policy document to assist with the management of transgenderd persons.

I think any major compoany would be to scared to do anything silly as any bad publiciity is very detrimental.

But please don’t let me put you off in your journey.

    Hugs

    Stef

I haven’t been put off, and really if I had, am I doing the right thing…

It’s kinda as I suspected, but the limbo part will be interesting, but I think that is would still be covered somehow.

Agreed about the publicity, and as many have pointed out here, it’s more our own fears that stop things happening.

I work with Coles Express, which is part of the Coles group. I would imagine coles supermarkets are the same about transitioning. My manager is going to let me wear a female name badge that doesnt correspond with my official payslip at the moment, as well as supplying female shirts. These big companies do have a strong tendency to obey the anti discrimination info. We have a manual at work that states all of that.
