Jordan Raskopoulos must divorce for new birth certificate

“We’re already married but for me to legally change my gender on my birth certificate we have to be divorced,” she said. “I can’t actually fix my birth certificate unless I am not married to a woman because under Australia’s law two women can’t be married.
“It’s just another face of the marriage equality issue … the law kind of wants to bust us up.”

Nothing really new there, it has always been a problem for those who have transitioned that to change ones gender, there needs to be a divorce. And then of course because you cannot have same sex marriage, you cannot remarry.
Mind you these days, marriage seems to be an afterthought for a lot of couples.

Remember Norrie who managed to use the courts to get the registry to issue a revised birth certificate as a non-specific gender person. Norrie starred in episode 1 of the ABC documentary “Hatch, Match and Dispatch” wanting to marry a male partner. No joy, non-specific gender people can’t marry anyone. Roll on marriage equality.
