being part of the community
Posted by Anonymous on 17/08/2008 at 10:08 pmCan someone who does not see face-to-face or inter act with others in the real world. Can this person be part of a community, seeing that I do all my contacts, communication and information passing via the Internet an I part of the real community.
I am finding it harder to pluck up the courage to get out in the real world. So for all anyone knows I might be a 20-year-old Uni student at running some sort of research.
So the question is am I a part of this community? Are there other ways to me to be more active within the group, seeing that I am unable to get mobile.

Guest18/08/2008 at 12:38 ampenny – despite what you read on tranny radio, i think that tr is fundamentally inclusive. there is no question that we are a diverse (not divisive) lot – ranging from the occasional closet cross dresser, to the socially adept tranny, to post op transsexuals, and add to that a whole bunch of differing sexual preferences. so no matter whether or not you are actively involved or just watching the virtual world in tr go by, i cannot see any reason why you should not be viewed as a part of the community. i am sure amanda can drag up some stats that will show that those that post items on tr represent a small minority of all tr members, so even if you do not post very often, that alone would make you more than the average tr member, and so a part of the community.
but i encourage you to take part and be active, because i have found that trying to deal with all of this stuff that comes with the special card we have been dealt is a lot easier by connecting with others. in fact, it is rather joyful!

Guest18/08/2008 at 8:52 amPenny,
I have been a contributor to forums, have chatted and generally hovered around the TR site for two years. In that time I have commuicated with a wide ranging example of the community. Was I part of it? I think so! I found this out last weekend when I plucked up courage to go to the ball. I met those with whom I have spoken with, reacted, communicated laughed and conversed. Suddenly I felt as though the community had accepted me as one of its own.
Two years ago I would dream of going out dressed at night for a brief walk. Saturday lunchtime I was walking through Darling Harbour dressed. I felt part of the community and Lucie, Noeleena and I were having a ball!
Be patient and get involved with others at levels you are comfortable with, ask questions etc and before you know it the community will have you there as one of its own.

Guest22/08/2008 at 4:07 amHi Penny
I think the very fact that you are here makes you part of the community. One of the great features of computers is the ability to be part of all kinds of communities that may be located anywhere in the world. Perhaps the question is what level of input or participation you wish to have in the community. That can only be decided by you in your own time when you feel ready. As Helen and Virginia allude to, there is heaps of support within this community and if you draw on that support in any way then you are part of the community.
As for anonymity and identity fraud that is certainly not exclusive to TR but in the end its not a problem. I am actually a 120kg Estonian lumber jack who breeds aardvarks and has a severed head collection (well not really but you get the picture). When it comes to getting out the real you is all you have so any BS will come back to bite you. In other words when you get out and meet others in person they will usually prove to be who they say they are.
Hang in and stay with us, I have a feeling your desire to get out will come to fruition if you really want it.
