  • Bras don’t fit !

Posted by Anonymous on 29/09/2009 at 5:23 am

    Hi Girls….
I am full time and on HRT and I have such a problem with Bras !
You see, my boobs are very…..er, well…you know…..
East and West ! They are very wide apart and tend to face outwards.

I’ve tried all sorts of bras but the cups are just not where my boobs are !
I’d do anything to get some cleavage which I can do if I hold my arms out front ( like when I wash my hands).
To make matters worse I am somewhat overweight and it is comming off slowly but it makes it hard to know where boob stops and fat begins.
    I am somewhere around a size 16 . 5 (alas, I used to be a 12)
I havent been to a Bra shop yet ’cause I am not convinced that they could help me.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Monique

    Hi Monique

I found a bra at best for less that had a pocket. I then inserted a chicken fillet foldered in half into the pocket which made a really high pushup. It worked really well.

You can get covers for the chicken fillets as the sillicon was hard to push into the bra pocket. Once I got a bit bigger I found their water pushup bras to be really good.

Best and less seem to have a range that fits me and they are at a good price. I have tried a profressional fitting when I had just gone fulltime and that is what they suggested as I did not fit anything in their shop.

    I was/am a 14A …. I just dont need as much padding now lol.

    Hope this helps.

    xxx

    Hi Monique,

Yes, most definitely you need to be properly fitted. I know the first time is awkward. The girls will be fine. I suggest visiting mainstream department stores. They cater for all shapes and sizes. GGs have the same problems we do

There is also the option of “breast enhancers” which are a silicon breast form to boost what you already have. I don’t know how comfortable they are to wear. I’ve always been happy with just having breasts, and over the years I’ve grown out of several sizes.

Widely spaced breasts are a fact of life for us. I don’t understand the why. It’s just the way we are. But it’s not just us who experience difficulties with fitting into bras. Ask an expert for fitting advice

I recommend looking at this link re breast development

    Take care

Genetic males have larger chests and shoulders which is why we have issues like that. Time does make a big difference.. I was similar.. now I am not.. ;-)

I had similar issues, and when I got fitted the advice was get a 14C with inserts or 14B without rather than the 16B and 16A respectively. Add an extender to get the back size right… This was the advice from a BNT bra fitting specialist…… However…..

I have a GG friend Anna, who is from the UK (like me) and she is a qualified bra fitter. She took one look at my bras and launched into one… Apparently I am not a 16B, I’m a 12D… This surprised me greatly, but I am wearing my 14C’s now without an extender, and they fit better than when I had the extender… Note: I have lost 14kg since my last fitting so this is not too big a surprise. What was the surprise was when I put on the 14C without the extender and she checked the underwire and the back strap and said “definitely a 12D”…! Seems that the larger cup sizes on the smaller bras have the same volume but they have a larger cup width.. This means that for the wider chest I thought I had a smaller bra will fit better than the larger ones… If you can make sense of that, you’re a better girl than me, but that was from a qualified bra fitter.

Anna also said BNT, Myers and most other mainstream places do not have qualified bra fitting staff so they don’t know what they are doing. From experience BNT do have qualified bra fitters available in some stores, they have a special badge indicating such. Normal staff do not, and they do not know how to fit bras properly.

    Shells

PS: most BNT are happy for any *dressed* CD/TV/TS/TG to visit for a fitting, some require appointments some do not. If you turn up as a guy, don’t be surprised if they turn you away without an appointment.

I fully agree with Shells about Myers etc I went to the Indooroopilly store and found the staffs attitude to be atrocious I was given a quick glance and told “that section”. I then went to the Indooroopilly BNT and the girls where of great help, even though there was no qualified Fitter on that day they had enough experience that with a bit of trying and a lot of giggling we sorted it out to a 20C

For what it’s worth here is my own experience. I’d been guessing my size and buying bras on line with varying degrees of success. I was en femme in St Kilda recently and went to a shop to try bras on. I walked out with two Elle Macpherson bras in my bag and a smile on my face. Had a GG friend around and she said she can’t wear Elle bras because they are the wrong shape for her; maybe because “The Body” is such a tall girl. Anyway I now will stick with Elle until I try on another brand. Trying ebfore buying has two great benefits; first you know it fits and feels and looks good; and second, chances are you’ve had a good time meeting GGs and increasing your confidence.

One thing I learned early as a teenager was that bra fitting has to to do with two measurements: around the chest under the breasts (where the bra usually sits) and the measurement around the fullest part of the bust. The under-bust chest measurement tells you the size 8-24+. The difference between the two measurements indicates which cup size.

Knowing your chest measurement is key to finding the right bra size. For most of us, the cup size merely has to accommodate the breast form or fillets. Also if your buying from a wellknown brand in-store, try looking up your size on their website beforehand.

Don’t forget to be honest! A size 16DD will not look natural on a chest that should be wearing a size 20.

As trans girls most of us have the option of choosing our cup size. Try choosing a size that will give you a full bust measurement that will fit under your clothes. If you have a bust measurement of 125cm when padded out, then wear a top that would fit that size.

I don’t know if this would help or not, but I have noticed that bra’s that clip together at the front between the boobs seem to have the cups slightly further apart. Perhaps trying this style on would give you the comfort you seek. Just grab one in Myers or K-mart etc and take it into the change rooms and try it. No one will question you, in fact no one will probably even notice you taking it in there. Most of the people in these stores seem to too busy gossiping amongst themselves to take any notice of the customers.
    Hugs Pamela!
