  • Breaking in new shoes – how can you do it?

Breaking new shoes in is always such a pain in the, well feet! ive got a new pair that are leather uppers, and they are so tight at the moment, ouch! ive actually worn them in the shower to try and soften them up and then leave them on my fett to stretch in, this seems to work but takes hours. is there a better way?
Also im wondering with synthetic shoes can you soften them especially if they are patent or full gloss?
    cheers Amy

Hi Amy, re leather shoes, you can buy, at a shoe shop or a shoe repairer a small bottle of leather stretch, it’s about $6 or $7 dollars. I’ve used it and it can work reasonable well. Re the synthetic or patent, they usually can’t stretch. I am told, the way they are prepared makes them impervious to that sort of treatment. I’m afraid, like all women we are just going to have to suffer for our desires,

    Hi Amy,

I got a pair stretched by a bootmaker for a day or 2. Made all the difference for $10 ! Good luck.

I’ve got a problem with a pair of grosbys at the moment, there is a hard bit of leather at the join on the back of the heel *breathes* that has dug two holes into the back of my heels. They seriously hurt even to walk. The thing is I had 3 bandaids on each heel that night. I looked at that webiste but they didn’t have anything for the back of shoes only the front/toe section. :P

    Ladies,
There is a product available at most major shoe outlets called “Tana Leather stretch” … check on goole indicates it is now called “Tana Expander Spray”.
You spray inside the shoes before you wear it and leather expands to mould around your foot.
I have used this product and provided the stretch required is reasonable it will work.
Those other areas that rub and irritate the foot ….. back in my male days breaking in shoes I put vaseline jelly on the outside of the foot where the irriation was occuring and no blisters, etc due to absorption of friction ….. it’s an old wives tale ….. it worked for me and I fit into that era …. hehehe.

    Cheers,

    Wendy

Amy, I’m pretty right as my feet are a Target 11 and I don’t have too much trouble with shoes. I do wear them as often as I can and let them stretch naturally. Its a time thing I suppose.

    Hugs

    Two things that may help;-
    1. Male size “shoe trees”, available from say Florsheim forced into the shoes for 24+ hours.
    2. Shreds of newspaper compacted into the shoe, pour small quantity boiling water in to expand paper, wait “til dry.
In both cases remove additions before wearing!

when i was in the srvices we used to stretch our new boots by placing a cake of soap in them and letting the water run in them for a while, it seemed to woek for those boots.

with boots / leather shoes, might be worth a try: place a strong plastic bag filled with water & well sealed into the shoe. put the boots / shoes into the freezer and allow the expanding water to do its work. after freezing has occurred, remove and gently caress your treasures. let me know if it works for you.

I bought a shoe expander from China from Ebay for $14 delivered, it works well for widening and stretching. xxx Lace

Anna’s recommended website above is fantastic.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of putting on a pair or two of socks, struggling into the now VERY tight shoes and then going for a small walk. Doing this a couple of times usually does the trick. I’ve never needed to do anything else.

I recently tried the small clip seal plastic gags filled with water in the freezer overnight method. Worked a treat on the tight toe ends.

On a whim I bought a pair of 13.5cm heels, I know you are probably saying “silly girl” but they looked so sexy. They feel absolutely fantastic, look great and did I say sexy? The problem is how do I get my legs to adjust to the stretch rather than streching the shoes.

BTW did I mention how sexy they are?
