A TRAGIC South Yorkshire boy who dressed in girls’ clothing took his own life, a coroner has ruled.
Cameron McWilliams, aged 10, was described by Doncaster coroner Stanley Hooper as a “distinctly unhappy little boy” who wanted to wear female clothes and make-up.

And, after hearing how the troubled youngster hanged himself from a window in his older sister’s bedroom in February, the coroner urged other young people in a similar situation to contact a support group.

Mr Hooper told Doncaster Coroner’s Court: “I’m mindful that this is an unusual verdict for a 10-year-old, but I shall record a verdict that Cameron McWilliams killed himself. I express my sympathy to all members of the family.

“Undoubtedly he was a distinctly unhappy little boy who, I’m told, wished to wear female clothes and make-up, and had been denied these things.”

He urged other youngsters with concerns about their sexuality to contact Mermaids – http://www.mermaids.freeuk.com to avoid a similar tragedy.

Cameron’s mum Kelly McWilliams was not at the hearing, but had previously told Mr Hooper she expected that as Cameron got older her son would have become a “part-transvestive”.

Mrs McWilliams said Cameron was a very lonely boy who was older than his years academically and wanted to be a scientist when he grew up.

Cameron, from Montrose Avenue, Intake, Doncaster, had no friends out of school, and would stay at home, playing with video games, watching TV or listening to music.

Mr Hooper said Cameron had been caught wearing his older sister’s underwear.

He said: “I’m told his mum bought him some knickers and he wore them at home in private.”

:( It’s so sad to hear that young people like that see taking their own lives as the only option to deal with their situation, why is it that people can’t accept the fact that some of us are the way we are and there’s nothing we can do about it? I’m sorry, but it makes me angry.
