Following on the discussion about crossdressing, I thought we could discuss a few more examples of how to properly follow Gods Laws:

    1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Indonesians, but not New Zealanders. Can anyone clarify? Why can’t I own New Zealanders?

    2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you all think would be a fair price for her?

    3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness – Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

    4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

    5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

    6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination – Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than crossdressing. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination?

    7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?

    8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

    9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may my children still play football if they wear gloves?

    10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

    – not mine originally but I think it sums up the silliness of the literal interpretation of the bible that so many hold with.

Thanks Amanda and Christina for your observations, (especially Christina’s and Hexa’s, I remember the SouthPark Movie!)
As was said, when Jesus came on the scent he rewrote the rules. For some reason I get a tad coy when discussing religion, I don’t want the bible bashers coming after me I suppose and having it drummed into me as a child helps. I always get uncomfortable when I hear people quoting the bible at me or when they talk about it as if it’s a living entity.
I was at a swimming pool and waiting to take my turn at the rinse off shower where two young males were washing, they were praising the lord for the temperature of the water and how nice it was. Another time at a birthday party, the birthday girl was telling everyone how Jesus was her best friend and how she was so grateful for this. If I’d been her husband I’d have been so p****d off. But he was a good Christian as well so I suppose he was pleased to be in the same line I guess.
One of the troubles with religion is that so many people get hurt because of it. Every war had the name of their Lord for support. Every country seems to have had some sort of religious violence thrust upon them with religion being used as an excuse or reason for the violence.
Sorry I’m getting on a soap box again but I remember when I was growing up in Northern Ireland, during the ‘troubles’ as we would call it, Troubles? People getting blown up and shot? and that’s called the Troubles, I wonder what they’d call a total warfare, Bit of Strife?
I’d go round to friends houses and the priest or nuns would be round collecting money from them, they couldn’t have had two pennies to rub together but the priest took it anyway. I apologise to Catholics, I know there are decent people in every faith. I’ve been thinking about Buddhism lately, I don’t think there is a more peaceful religion which makes so much sense.

Well done Amanda. You have exposed the nonsense written in the bible very well. After all it was written by a bronze age tribe thousands of years ago. Oh and Helen, I have lived in N. Ireland and it convinced me it takes religeon to make good people do evil. See my earlier contribution on this topic for the full quote.
    Hugs to all
    Janet.

If you don’t mind Amanda. I would like to comment on this.

Yes, The laws of that era are very draconian. God put these laws into place to keep the Jew’s busy so most, I suppose would give their time to obeying the law and not think of other less godly acts.

Helen, as previous these laws are for the Jewish tribles and the situation a it was then. Forget most of the old testament, like Nicole said. Jesus came to replace the law with love, love thy neighbour. Everyone states the 10 commandments and just ignors Jesus as a saviour just as the Jews do today. I cherish Jesus as my savoiur regardless of my imperfections so far as if someone put the gun to my head to renounce, I wouldn’t. God would then hopefully recreate me like the transporter on the Enterprise or the starship Voyager. in his time

God has put his laws in the new testament like Mathew Mark John Romans Glatians etc That is the guide for both Jew’s and Gentiles. When my SO quotes the 10 comandments, I tell her about the others, like killing very disobedient childeren with does leave a bad tase in anyone mouth. It hopefully may wake her and anyone up to the new testament of love.

Yes I also have a pet hate for religion. Religion is man made and is not of GOD. Mankind has distorted this with the help of evil influences that redirect man away from GOD. That is wat Satan is about, Hexa’s friend.
I don’t preach unless invited. I just see how everything is misinterperated, even basic black and white stuff. Compare what the new testament says and what man does. Who is wrong? If someone said something about your closest friend that is incorrect would you not try to correct it. That is how I feel about misrepresentation. I would like to give people accurate knowledge and they can make up thier own minds what they do with the info. Drumming in religion is wrong and I could go and write a book about it as mostly anyone probabbly can . My parents showed me the way and be aware and left me to make up my own mind.
Sorry webmistress Amanda. A little of track at the moment
And Helen, that priest should have helped them rather than take. That would be the proper thing to do.

Jane, That’s a lot of hope, comparing your belief to a science fiction programme

Jane, that was the point I was making. Belief in religion is open to manipulation, so many use it for the wrong reasons. And over what? Two separate series of items that were written a long time ago, when everything changes from one behaviour pattern ‘Strong, smiting all over the place’ to another who is meek and mild and forgiving?
I don’t think Hexa is Satan’s friend, by the way, she’s referring to a character in a satirical cartoon, so that was a bit unkind.

Hi to Janet-1 and all who have responded to crossdressing ,God and Me.I think your last quote is so true, good are good ,bad will alays be bad some may get better only time will tell..
I cosider myself a good christian but have stopped going to church since I have been on my own, there were questions I asked but none could give any satifactory answer.
I dont think God disapproves as to how we feel and dress or he would show some sign to us. If one feels guilty that is their consious and they are not sure, or would they be punished. I say carry on and we will all find out if we have been wrong..
Just my little input, maybe I got it wrong, but I will continue to dress as and when I feel..

i dont know if I have made any sence , but thats me…

The problem with Jesus was, he wore ragged clothes ,had long hair and was always hanging around the cross. As far as im concerned, religion of any denomination has no place in these forums.Religion has in the past and still continues to this day to repress, restrict and discriminate against people who dont adhere to their doctrines.

Helen1, you are right about religions suppressing the non-adherents and the followers also, even Buddhism, of which I am very fond, I heard in an interview with a Western monk recently, has over 300 [ I think he said] strictures against women[ nuns] and 100 odd for men. I have long believed that Buddhism was a true “liberation ” philosophy, endeavoring to free one from all binding attachments , even to Buddhism itself. This is pretty rare as far as religions go, most advise to hang on for dear life. So when I heard the interview it troubled me somewhat.
Just to add something to the Jesus thing, Mathew 5-17:” Think not that I come to destroy the Law, or the Prophets: I am come not to destroy but to fulfill” Ma. 5- 18 “For verily I say unto you, til heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle[ detail sic] , shall in no wise pass from the law , till all be fulfilled.” then, “Whoever , therefore’ shall break one of these commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven…” Mathew , being a devout Jew , may have been pushing a strongly Jewish line on the Jesus story [as John later pushes a Gentile one,] and may be embellishing Jesus words but it points to a flaw in saying that the New Testament is somehow more Transgender friendly than the Old.
Now, in an attempt to stick to the thread, God and Me: I believe in a creative force in the Universe that is non personal, non judgemental, acting through the Universe, Eminating through all things but not acting from outside, punishing some and rewarding others. If such a GOD were to be proven tomorrow, I would resist such an arbitrary and unjust attitude ! The TAO puts it beautifully I believe ” the highest good is like water, it nourishes the TEN THOUSAND THINGS[ Universe] but does not lord it over them. It resides in the places that men ignore, and so is like the TAO “
Just look at the variety of life on this planet, the weird array of creatures and plants, from bird eating spiders to girraffes with 7 neck vertabrae [same as us] and plants that move to catch their meal, to all the strange permutation of colours of feathers, frills, skins etc that Evolution has tried in the past….makes a bloke in a frock pretty unspectacular does’nt it???
We create much of our own burden that we carry through life, it seems a bit silly to carry an ancient civilizations rules as well to make our lives even harder.

Yes Helen, it is faith and a hope of what GOD is offering. I love star trek and stargate etc
I no way believe that to become a fact in the future. We will get to a technical stage like that but somewhat different. But that is a different story. I was merely portraying how simple it would be for the universal creator to recreate life.

    Helen wrote

Just compare what the bible says to anyone says. If the belief doesn’t align itself to the bible then it would be wrong. Ie if there is a faith that believes in parent – child sex then this would not biblically correct.
Helen-1 wrote about Jesus having long hair. I don’t think so as the bible says it is shameful for men to have long hair. The cross is pagan orientated by the amalgamation of Christian and pagan religions. The Greek word is, starous; stake or tree, see google. Statues of Christ on a cross or figure of long hair are idols of worship, which is again incorrect when one compares this to the bible. That is how I check out what is correct and incorrect.
A few days ago I did some work for a catholic minister, nice person. I asked him what God’s name is?. After stuttering around he said “Jesus Christ I think” I didn’t say anything more. Just curious.
Psalm 95:6 Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before Yahweh, our Maker,

Helen, I was supporting your point, wholeheartedly.
When does killing, rape, stealing etc age? When does being kind change?
Hexa and I had some nice chats on the chatline a couple of times. If ever in Sydney I will look her up. I was not referring just to the cartoon but to ungodly content of the heavly metal bands and discussions in the past on her beliefs . Her choice, I respect that. I still will take up the offer to go out one day, regardless of her beliefs. Two tall women. LOL

Religion, yes. I am against that too. Proper Christianity doesn’t. If you want to listen, listen. If you don’t, don’t. It is YOUR CHOICE. I like to share proper views. Yes I may need correcting from time to time, but prove it scripturally.

I can comment on many other replies in this topic, which may be going a little astray. Just open your eyes, forget what has been dictated, forced upon you, even all you have learned and look into the bible as a child. Read it, then read it again and you will pick up different angles for understanding and it all comes together. Bible can be a little different but until you go indepth any bible will give you the general message.
If anyone wants to contact me personally regarding Christianity. I would invite them. Just e-mail me

    gods are man made
IF there is a god, why is there so many religions
and why so many wars, caused by religion.
men use religion as an excuse to kill.

    Hello,
I have to go with Jessica on this topic. I do not believe. I was raised in catholic institutions, they really convinced me that there are only false gods.

Wow, I’ve certainly started some debate here, but I can’t help think some of you have not read the original post. So the answer to some of your questions are, yes, religion does have a lot of rules and regulations, mainly for power and control, and the majority of them have nothing to do with God.
God in fact doesn’t have many rules at all. Her main rule is Love. Our souls are based around Love, which is why we feel so much better when we have Love in our hearts. God also doesn’t have retribution in mind if we break any of these man made rules; we only have Her undying Love. God would much prefer we follow our hearts and think for ourselves when it comes to religion. Our holy texts and scriptures are not definitive, for they have been filtered by us over time.
Look to your heart and see the wonder and Love around you. Step away from the illusions of life and see them for what they are, just illusions.

    Love to you All,
    Karen.
    :P
