    Hi girls

Does anyone know anything about the Cutera IPL machine?

I’ve been getting ELOS laser treatment but the provider is upping stumps from Albury. They recommended a crew also in Albury who use this Cutera machine. Googling has found an additional Albury provider but, typically, none where I live. I didn’t find much in the way of general info except the claims of the manufacturer, but then I havent had heaps of time to research it either.

I need to get cracking if I want to book in 4 weeks from my last treatment to keep things in sync

    cheers
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah

I haven’t tried that one but the news is mixed from the community on IPL generally

Its very expensive and for some hair and skin types it just doesnt work

For me and some others I think we have found that the effects can be good but not lasting

I’d like to hear others views but as someone who hss tried many things, electrolysis is still the only permanent solution.

Sounds good on paper but in WA places that were charging $500 a session when I started are now on $250. I think demand is drying up

Good luck with whatever you try

Hi everyone, just having a read of the original question here and this is what I can offer.

Cutera, for those who don’t know, is just the brand of the IPL machine in use here, nothing else. IPL stands for “Intense Pulsed Light”. It is a form of laser treatment but not like going to get laser hair reduction on your face however. I did some research before I started hair reduction and to sum things up, this is what I basically found out.

Laser and IPL are commonly termed as removal but the actual term to use is reduction. Neither treatment does actually kill off every hair in the area being treated. They only work on the hairs that can be seen by the machine at the time of treatment. Electrolysis is the only real way of hair removal that is a decent option at the moment that I could find. That is why most people that have laser or IPL treatment go back at a later date for some final “touch ups”.

Everybody has different skin and hormones etc. [this is not just directed at HRT people either], this means that some people can get good efficient results and some take a longer time or don’t have much luck at all. Not many salons are doing IPL at the moment but it is increasing in use however. One main reason is that it is a lot quicker than laser for the treatment of comparable sized areas. I ended up doing IPL and have been happy with it too, I started with a six session package and am now on a second six. The price greatly reduced with the second lot of treatments as I don’t have anywhere near the amount of hair on my face and neck at the moment. Another comment that I got was that with my skin and hair, I’m having some good results because I can handle [grit my teeth] the machine going to the highest settings that it can, not stay low because of the pain. It’s not much but because I have thick facial hair, it tends to want to hang around on me!

Do some research in the local beauty shops and find out what they can offer before travelling large distances. I hope that my “two cents worth” helps a bit too, Peta A.

    thanks Sarah & Peta

I’ve just booked into a local provider for electrolysis. Unfortunately, I have to wait until feb to get in. Will post the results as they emerge.

As for the ELOS laser I was getting; seems it was quite cheap compared to other laser providers? (I’m not really sure as there aren’t too many choices around here) I was paying $130 a session (yes, still a lot of money when you add it up!).

I have fair skin and dark hair and it seems to be living up to it’s expectations. After 5 sessions I have greatly reduced facial hair. The provider used to visit Albury monthly but are actually based in Sydney if anyone’s interested – google ‘Heavenly Escape’ and you’ll find them

Trying Electrolysis now as the provider is trans friendly (I didn’t come out to the ELOS crew) and figure it’s time to tell them what I want, it’s local, recommneded by a local girl and may work out cheaper (time will tell)

    many thanks
    Sarah
