    discontinuing Duphaston….

Posted by Anonymous on 19/10/2010 at 3:45 am

the guy at my local pharmacy just told me that they are discontinuing Duphaston/Dydrogesterone in Australia. This kind sucks for those that are actually taking it such as me.
Duphaston is really really good, it’s a progestin and unlike others it doesn’t increase ones libido and actually keeps me stable emotionally.

From what I know Provera is the only other alternative here that is available through the system and I do believe it is also covered by PBS?

Anyway this sucks and I’m not happy at all about this, hopefully I can work something out and still manage to order it from somewhere.

Is anyone else on this and heard anything?

Hi Muffin, I’m not so far down the track as you, I am only about 5 months into using Progynova. I was interested in your comment that Duphaston doesn’t increase one’s libido. Why is this an issue? Do you find that your libido is increased above what you would consider “normal”, or are you happier with a lower libido than you were used to as a boy?

I have read a few comments over the years where girls have been happier on HRT as they haven’t had to wrestle with their male hormones; or words to that effect. I’ve never had the sensation of being hassled by testosterone and I wouldn’t want to lose my libido even when I’m full time. Am I the odd girl out here?

p.s., I guess this is a potentially personal question so I won’t be offended if it’s none of my business.

This post does not answer the question Muffin asked. I’ve moved it to an existing forum that discusses libido

According to the PBS update I googled….

“The following item will be deleted from the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits on 1 January 2011:
    Item discontinued by the manufacturer—
1350C Dydrogesterone, Tablet 10 mg (Duphaston)

I found out that this happened in the UK three years ago and they did offer a new alternative (microgest/prometrium) which is actually better than both Duphaston and the other currently Progestin avail here Provera (Ack) as it is bioidentical and…technically is a progesterone as opposed to progestin. It’s also what I originally wanted to go on but couldn’t get on PBS here or at all from memory. So fingers crossed that they actually follow in the UKs footsteps and do the exact same.

I saw a new GP today, she *sigh/facepalm* …she didn’t have any answers at all. She didn’t even know the difference between progestins and progesterones. I’m kinda thinking I should just fold back to my psychiatrist and deal with him with everything I’m going through. GPs are not generally educated on such rare conditions as this. 🙄 ..ok some know their stuff but they are rare… too rare. Todays GP talked of duphaston in it’s relation to natal women, the first thing that came out of my mouth when I sat down was my situation in a nutshell..yet clear and comprehensive. so. yeah… until I’m post-op then no more GPs.
