Do you want to be a mother?
Posted by Anonymous on 02/05/2010 at 12:11 amSomewhere, perhaps in an earlier post, someone asked would you take a pill if after a week of taking it you would have perfect female genitalia BUT there was no chance of reversing it. For some unknown reason I wondered how many of us would take the new improved version; one which gave you fully functioning ovaries and womb. So you’d have periods and could get pregnant. Which would you take?
I know most of us are beyond child bearing age so ignore that please. That said it brought home to me the extra complication of being a GG. If you want to have children the window of opportunity is at best narrow and for some, non-existent.
And then you begin to wonder if you hadn’t married a 35 year old who wanted six kids but could only manage one and substituted alcohol abuse for raising the five non-existent kids; would you be where you are now?

Guest02/05/2010 at 12:28 pmWell Felicity, I’ve never ever been of the opinion that I needed to be a parent to have a complete life and be happy but if I ever ended up in that position then yes, I would rise to the occasion of course. I can’t work out the last paragraph of your post however, was it just hypothetical or an actual point?
If I could take the first mentioned pill, of course I would and even the second one wouldn’t bother me either for that matter, it’s a shame that neither is in production!

Guest02/05/2010 at 10:25 pmI would take both pills too… Have always dreamt of having my own family and being a mum since young… I think I might be too old to receive the medical technology by the time it arrives though…

Guest03/05/2010 at 12:35 amHi Peta, Amanda will have my guts for garters-I started drifting off my own topic! I must have been getting a bit introspective-just reflecting on my own experience.

Guest03/05/2010 at 11:17 amYes ! I would always want to be a mother…..a true genetic female.
But I am lucky in a sense that I do have a wonderful 10yr old boy and I
do “mother” him. In many ways I am more of a ‘Mother’ to him than his real Mum !
I work at his school tuckshop twice a week and mostly the whole school thinks I am his real Mum, which is good for his sake even more than for mine.
But that grass on the other side is soooo green, isn’t it ? YES….I would take that pill ….
(which I believe might be real and available one day! I tried to find the article here but couldn’t.)
In respect to myself…I can’t stand ‘fake’ …I don’t want to be fake in any way….so I would not even hesitate to take that pill.
I wish I had given birth to my boy to be honest, but like the song says,
” you can’t always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes you get what you can.”Monique

Guest20/02/2012 at 10:00 amHi.
Being a female , with out a womb.. yes im one of those,
The best & closest i have come too other than Jos haveing our three children , was 9 years ago when Kaylyn gave birth to her child Dejarn ,
Who is a lovely girl , when she was born it was like this is my own child that i could not give birth to. we are very very close, & spent a LOT of time to gether going on camps & just being close , really she is my child,
& to me if any thing happened to her that would kill me , & i mean that , That’s what she means to me,
a detail came up one day & Kaylyn said to me stop being the Mother i am not you.
& under my breath i said oh you just dont know i am the mother, this is my child, meaning Dejarn,& as a woman i do understand what its like not being able to have your own baby with in, yes for nine months, & to give birth,
This topic does wind me up because its a very Emotional thing for me,A pill maybe , & may be a bit late now, of cause,.
…noeleena…

Guest18/03/2012 at 7:41 amI can say with full honest effect no, I am ok with saving kittens and cats, But a human child no! I done my share of looking after family members kids and it was always nice to hand them back. But me with children 24/7 no thanks.

Guest19/03/2012 at 5:27 amI have realised quite recently that I would have been happier had I been born a girl. But whether the change was whole or partial at this point is irrelevant to me. I would only take the pill that goes back and alters all the previous chapters of my life, changing son, brother, husband and father to their feminine equivalents.
As long as my life and gender has been what it has, I will always feel adrift between Mars and Venus no matter the present state of my physicality.

Guest05/04/2012 at 9:20 pmI’ve been called a Mother a few times, but would never want to be one.
TO MUCH HARD WORK !!!!!
Seriously though Isnt being a Father (hand’s on type) very similar ??
Or is it just about giving birth and breast feeding, as a Father can do all the other thing’s involved. Being a Parent is awsome (most of the time) lol -
My daughter has more often than not called me mummy, or mummy daddy, over the course of her 9 years. Children see into the shadows but don’t always realise what they are seeing.
But back to the original propostion …apparently this pill does give one perfect female genitalia, but not a perfect female figure, some are pear shaped, some have dimpled thighs, some their hips too narrow, and some their breasts too small, one step at a time though, I guess …..
