Does TR need a vision or mission statement?

Guest07/06/2010 at 11:01 pmThanks for the responses
I would like to explain what I was thinking when I originally posted this (BTW Amanda, I had no idea TgR came from Transistor Radio – WOW!)I guess I was visioning what TR would be like down the track. (Sorry Amanda, I really don’t want to increase your workload!) A couple of things that bother me at the moment: –
TR is not recognised by the mainstream society but that’s not the fault of TR, it’s that people dismiss the “T” in GBLT. It’s all about Gay and Lesbians. Their movement has reached the point of ‘Same Sex Marriage’. We are so far behind.
The Gender Centre of NSW doesn’t even list TR as a support network however it lists Seahorse (Please, I’m not Seahorse bashing, they have their role to play as well), just trying to make a point
The medical community always quotes ‘Seahorse’ as a support network when helping others, hey what about TR?
How many people here can honestly say that TR has helped and changed their lives? Shouldn’t we be recognised as a ‘Support and Social entity’ for the male to female gender diverse community? We certainly have the people here, from first time out to post-op. Our forums are filled with advice, personal stories and links that can help others. My issue is that both the medical and general GBLT community doesn’t seem to see that. I want to change that!!
Quote:Quote:Transmen don’t usually crossdress… if that …is ..even possible?Certainly is!
There seems to be a lot of ignorance about the F2M transgender community (for want of a better label)
From my observation, and talking with them, they have all the same stages of crossdressing , transgender/(pre=op TS if you must), and transexual (i.e. a man) we do. They have all the same problems with labels as we have (see the thread on labels for that!) and of course they have very similar problems with the public/doctors/the law.
In that regard there is so many areas in common they would probably finding reading our forums as illuminating as I find reading theirs.
I’ll agree that if, by your label TS, you mean post-operative transgenders then, no, this web site doesn’t focus on them – because there are plenty of web sites out there for real women. The focus of the web site are those who are on a journey inbetween.
Amanda
Wouldn’t it be cool if we had FTM’s here? They would add a lot of value. Think about events like Transformal with all of us involved! Can you just imagine for 1 minute
So I guess I’m visioning and dreaming of a wide spectrum of gender diversity and to be a recognised entity that brings individuals together for the purpose of providing a support and social network
Anyway, I guess I’m hearing from everyone to allow the process of ‘osmoses’ to continue like it has for 15 years, sounds good to me.Congratulations Amanda
Amy

Guest08/06/2010 at 12:10 amAmy, you are right on the money with your last post. There is no reason that we can’t be suggested as a site by the medicos and so on but we still need to maintain our format here which is a personal type one not professional as I stated in my earlier post, hence not having mission statements. Amanda has decent disclaimers where they are needed I feel so we don’t need anything else.
Not to go off topic here but maybe IT IS time that we all promoted TR a big more strongly? Start a new thread if you wish Amanda but I don’t think that we need to, I’ll do it anyway (with commonsense of course).

Amy’s last post contains two good problem statements both of which I think are worthy of a LOT of discussion. Maybe this thread went a bit feral because it was started with a solution “A mission statement” and we didn’t take a step back and ask what are the next challenges that TR might want to tackle.
The message is clear that people like TR with the feel and look that has got it to where it is today. But that doesn’t stop energetic people nudging it in the right direction. I know I haven’t been the only one pushing TR into the gender disphoria space over the last few years – with clear success. We now need to discuss “where next” so we are pushing in the same or similar directions.
I’ve locked this thread to stop another outburst of label throwing. And started two new topics based on Amy’s suggestions – where I might add, rants about labels will get short shrift.

And to discuss TR catering for a wider community go here:

Guest10/06/2010 at 2:10 pmThe one thing I do like about TR it has not got a big over head over on going outings yes we like to promote it bit with in reason .
But WE do NOT need to go out and jump in front of Trucks to prove we are Trannies .
If you don’t turn up for public events like TR IN Katoomba than think about it .
DO you want TV stations breathing down your breast . Than just flow .How many of you went to Aldi in katoomba I did ! we are all different all wanting all different attention . Not going to Aldi in katoomba was attention seeking We needed soap and dish washing liquid oh such ho hum items .
We have people who shun the light than we have those who Just Love it , where do you draw aline in the sand . we have cd’s tv’s ts’s and group of deverse people . All Wanting a new direction .
but what,s is the answer because I don’t know if bigger has an advantage . but if you have an Idea Please say so see you Steffi
