“Dressing up”, or “getting dressed”- A reflection!!
Posted by Anonymous on 07/04/2016 at 1:37 amHi to all on TGR,
In my younger days I guess, like many of us, I would regard “raiding my Mum’s lingerie drawer” as “dressing up”.
Now in my “semi dotage”, when a “Caty day” arrives, I simply regard it as “getting dressed”. No different to the “non Caty days” in male clothes.
Anyone else out there think/feel the same??
Regards
Caty

I agree Caty,
On a ‘normal’ Jane day I get dressed; however, if I am going out for the evening I am getting dressed up!

Yes I am the same. Just getting dressed – but it is far more interesting

In fact I am getting ‘dressed up’ tonight to see The Beatles Orchestrated at the Concert Hall in Brisbane. I just love classical music and the Beatles music – so should be a scream!

The last time I had a special evening dressed up like that was at the concert hall in the Victorian Arts centre, a girl friend and I went to see Carmen. We both ‘dressed up’, LBD’s and jackets. It was a great evening. I hope you enjoy your evening, The Beatles music is timeless.

Great idea – we should have significant events that require enough of us to get into our LBDs – The LBD nights – whatever the occasion be it opera or rock gig whatever – we should have a LBD night. Often… Juliette

What I wear might change depending on the time and event but not the uplifting experience.
And Jane_1, sure looking forward to catching up in Brisbane with you for a girls night out soon. Hmmm, now what to wear

Its alright for you lot that can wear a LBD….. :S
We “mature” types, all 90 kgs/size 18 and body hair everywhere of us, would never get away with it!!.
And as for the, (rode a bike everywhere as a kid) legs, the less said the better.
And my green eyeshadow is the same colour as that around my “gills”.
What’s the old saying about “jealousy is a curse”??.
Ah well back to the stockings, long sleeves and skirt length.
Happy dressing

Guest09/04/2016 at 9:19 amI have been thinking along these lines recently and have realized that, now that I wear feminine clothing everyday ( I am not wearing dresses to work… yet), the dressing up thing is blurred. I have no opportunity really for bothering to get dressed up, to do so and stay home is no longer of interest. In fact it is sometimes a relief to get home from work and wash off my makeup!
Getting dressed up is usually now for a night of ‘ fun'( oh bugger it ..SEX!) by myself and involves wearing sexy stuff. Why we are so reluctant to mention the sexual side of Trans life , is beyond me. The language often used by CDs to describe how it feels to wear clothing smacks of sexual pleasure. What is wrong with that? Are we less Trans for being sexually active? IMO this is normal human experience. Anyway, I digress.Since I have felt more comfortable to express my Trans status openly , the whole dressing up thing fades away. Naturally I do not want to bring undue hassle into my life but being the person I always believed myself to be, albeit out of time with current trends, has been the most liberating thing of my recent life .

God no! There is such a difference. From my perspective dressing up starts when I shop for the outfits that I love. It’s a holistic experience, from the time I prepare and hide imperfections with concealer stick to the end when slipping in a pair of heels and putting on Opium.. Its all dressing up in that sense girls!

I spend nearly all my time wearing feminine clothing and getting dressed is for a normal day be it at home or out shopping etc. Whereas dressing up is for going out some where special or going out with friends or if some romance is likely to be involved. So yes, for me, there is a difference between getting dressed and being dressed up.
