I had mine done quite a while ago now at a tattooist in Atherton. Was very impressed with their set up, very clean and sterile looking. I kept my studs in for about a week, although they recommended three weeks, and then put sleepers in. Love wearing earrings, the bigger and danglier the better.

I had mine done five years ago after I left my partner, it was making a personal statement, saying I am free to be whom I want, sadly hardly anyone noticed, even my work colleagues.
I had mine done by gun at a professional salon, it took 10 minutes, used studs and followed their advice on care. The only time the studs come out is to change earrings and it is, for me, an important step in ones journey. Hugs Lacey

Some more observations after 9 weeks
It’s becoming much easier to fit studs & hooks now, as I expected after more practice, still wish for smaller fingers (& feet etc, etc )
Still a little tender at times, but that is lessening as time goes by
I haven’t worked out the best sleep solution yet, sleeper studs & small hoops can both be a little uncomfortable at times & sometimes the studs fall out during the night, I have no idea how long it takes ’till you can leave them out all night
One drawback I hadn’t thought of, I now have to avoid the jewellery stands in department stores, I mean, a card with 10 pairs of assorted studs for $12 at Target!! if you don’t see it you won’t buy it
I also now have a collection of clip-ons that I can’t convert, might bring them to Transformal next year & put them in a freebie box

Finally did it , got my ears done last night , very clean place and the guy that did them was fantastic , he did have a lot of piecings himself and a very nice guy as well , it was pain free really not that it worried me anyway but i cant even feel them in my ears now and sleeping last night no problem , so very happy and excited , The Hair Warehouse in Blacktown is the place , Chris was the guy that did it for me .
Sat night at our friends xmas party is going to be the big night, so far ive not had any bad reaction from people around other than the usual ..why the hell ??
So i will follow the intstructions he gave me and i guess all will be well , cant wait to hit the shops for some new earings .
A small step for some i guess but a big step for me as only my wife knows about Petra , but im happy and thats all that matters right :)

Reading this topic I realise I am so far behind the times..maybe it’s a case of good things come to those who wait. I had my ears pierced on the weekend – loving it!

An old topic but still contemporary for those considering .

I persisted with clipons for a long time but only had a few pairs that were comfortable to wear for any length of time . It was only when I decided a few years ago to come out to all my friends that I had my ears pierced. The salon where I had them done used Blomdahl studs and guns and I was a bit nervous at first but the girls at the Salon were great , they have seen me as Caroline many times for nails make-up and facials. Blomdahl are a Swedish company and are certified to ISO 13485 so they are medical devices and sterile before insertion. Studs were made of Titanium which is not allergenic.
I definitely recommend good hand and ear hygiene once you get them and begin to try different hoops hooks etc I’ve never had any problems with infections and have found Silver is good as it is naturally antimicrobial.

Prior to getting my ears pierced, a couple of years after coming out and starting transitioning, I wore clip-ons.
Unlike Caroline, though, I didn’t have issues with the clip-ons being uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. In the early 1990s, when I started buying jewellery, I learned of the clip with screw earring mounts. Those mounts have a thumbscrew pad at the tip of the clip on the back, and the front stud point was usually bare. Some had a mounted diamante on that front point. You’d clip them in place, with the thumbscrew completely backed off, then carefully tighten the thumbscrew till it was firmly holding, but not uncomfortable. They worked very well.
Using tweezers and needle-nose pliers, I could fit pieces of jewellery ornamentation from other jewellery to hang from the mounting ring on the lower front of them. That meant I could go to the el-cheapo shops, buy the good looking earrings with the uncomfortable and not adjustable clip-on mounts, and re-mount the jewellery ornamentation from them, on the more comfortable clip with screw.

    MacGyver nothing.
All the remounting involved was opening up the wire ring for the ornamentation on the uncomfortable clip-ons, then transferring it to the clip with screw, and re-bending the ring closed again.
It’s exactly the same method, as fixing those wire rings, on necklaces or bracelets.

Really, always had problems with ‘clipons’, since piercing my problem is earing choice, plus noting more choice of clipons (grr)

LOL I thought it was just me. I am certain that in the two weeks I have had my ears pierced there is more than ever clip ons available. Still far more choices with piercings but.

Genevieve, then what you need are some pierced posts, with a dangly stuff loop.
Then it’s simply the same trick as I used with the screw tighten clips.
Find the clip-ons with the nice looking jewellery hanging from them, and transfer that to the pierced posts.
The other way to go, is to use small diameter pierced narrow hoops, and thread the nice looking jewellery hanging from the clip-ons, onto the hoops.

I had my ears pierced before Christmas at Stone Heart in the city. Tattoo and piercing studio which can seem a little intimidating from outside, but they are the most wonderful and accepting people. Consummate professionals too who take great pride in their work. They used a hollow needle as opposed to a gun which doesn’t punch out as much flesh as a gun and thus promotes healing. Opted for two titanium studs and haven’t had any issues with the healing thus far.

With regards people’s opinions, I’m only out to a select few and work in a male dominated and conservative environment so was a little nervous. However, I have had no issues or negative comments whatsoever. I’m sure I would if I wore diamond drop earrings, but in general people don’t seem to care. Makes me kick myself for not doing it years ago!
