    Estradot availability

Posted by Deleted User on 20/08/2020 at 2:08 pm

    Hello everyone

I’m interested to see if anyone else is having issues getting estradot.

I’m using 2* 100mcg patches and have been told that Estrador-100 is out of stock with the supplier. Estradot-75 seems ok at present.

I managed to obtain some, which will last me a month, after that I don’t know. I’m having GCS in November, so I can’t really deal with being off them right now.

I’m seeing my GP next week so I’ll have to discuss alternatives I suppose.

    Cheers
    Angela

I suspect the global market demand for HRT products has declined as a result of the fall off in demand by menopausal cis-women ( The original target market of course ).

This would make big pharma companies less enthused about keeping up supply of a product in declining sales..

Your best option would be for an implant, they last up to 12 months and are much cheaper and convenient.
More importantly though if you are planning GCS I would seriously question whether you should be continuing E2 patches . Please question this with your Surgeon ,not your GP as they may not be well informed.

From what Ive read, the usual advice is to cease E2 medication some months before planned GCS

SEEK EXPERT MEDICAL ADVICE !!!!!! Im just raising an alert for you.

Thanks for your concern. I’ve discussed the timing of ceasing HRT with the surgeon, and we have a plan. He also allows an implant to remain if I need to go that route. He’s more concerned about the Cyproterone being ceased before the operation.

The estrogen dose will need to drop after the surgery, so an implant may be tricky dose wise right now.

My GP is a specialist in this and has a large number of trans patients. My GP and the surgeon know each other well (both being in Canberra helps).

For others interested, I’m having the PPV method. Yay. I’ll be either #2 or #3 to have it done in Australia.

Hi, this might be old news, but the government has approved alternative brands of estradiol patches, which are more readily available. Estraderm seem to be available still, all the best

The Estradot shortage is currently reported on the TGA website
    HERE

    To quote:

    Quote:
    26 August 2020

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has been notified of a current shortage for all strengths of Estradot (estradiol) hormone replacement therapy (HRT) transdermal patches due to manufacturing issues. The shortage is expected to continue until July 2021.

Estradot HRT patches are used for short-term relief of symptoms associated with menopause.

In order to reduce the impact of this shortage on patients the TGA has authorised the supply of five overseas-registered products under Section 19A of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989. These products are similar in strength to the Australian registered Estradot patches that are in shortage.

The TGA has since become aware of a delay in the availability of some strengths of the overseas-registered product. In response, we are issuing Serious Shortage Substitution Notices for Estradot 25 and Estradot 100 patches. The notices specify substitutions that pharmacists are able to make for patients with a prescription for Estradot 25 or Estradot 100 patches. The notices allow Estradot patches to be replaced with the same strength of either Estraderm MX or Climara patches.

    ….etc……

I suspect my conjecture that low demand has caused manufacturing delays is not correct. There was a shortage a couple of years ago and I remember having some trouble getting Estradot back then .

There just seems to be the explanation everywhere
I’ve searched that “manufacturing issues” are the cause. Whatever that means.

All the more reason for at least
considering implants as there is no problem with that method of HT delivery.

The company probably found it was more profitable to make hand santiser. :-(
