Estrogen based face treatments
Posted by Anonymous on 17/01/2007 at 7:08 amThanks jane !
That advice is really helpfull !
really I did notice my facial skin soften with the application of the estrogen ( from transformations UK ) but as I wish to stay male I had to limit the number of applications .I forgot to mnetion the use of RetinA cream .I have used this for some years with i think good results in wrinkle reduction and prevention also in correcting sun damage
For those who maty be asking what is Retin A its an acne cream which was found to improve markedly skin quality and texture .In fact I was the only cream to be recognised by the medial proffession som eyears back as being effective in improving skin.Nowdays yu can get commercial wrinkle creams that contain ‘retinol ‘ which is the commercial derivative of Retin A .However RetinA still seems to be one of th best. Unfortunately (for some) its available only on prescription, but unless you are pregnanyt its relatively easy to get it prescribed …
Thanks again Jane

Guest17/03/2007 at 7:51 pmThe effects of an estrogen and glycolic acid cream on the facial skin of postmenopausal women: a randomized histologic study.
* Fuchs KO,
* Solis O,
* Tapawan R,
* Paranjpe J.Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, New York 12801, USA.
A prospective, randomized, double-blind study was conducted to determine if estradiol and glycolic acid creams produced a significant reversal of epidermal and dermal markers of aging and if the cumulative effect of the creams was greater than either alone. Sixty-five patients applied a cream containing 0.01% estradiol or 15% glycolic acid, alone or in combination, to one side of the face, and a vehicle cream to the opposite side, for 6 months. A 2-mm punch biopsy was obtained from the hairline of each patient and processed for analysis. The estradiol treatment produced a 23% increase in epidermal thickness (P = .00458); the glycolic acid, a 27% increase (P = .00467); and the combination, a 38% increase (P = .000181). All groups showed a statistically significant improvement in reversing markers (rete peg pattern, epidermal thickness) of skin aging. Although not statistically significant (P = .1), a cumulative effect was seen when estradiol and glycolic acid creams were used in combination.

Treatment of skin aging with topical estrogens.
Schmidt JB, Binder M, Demschik G, Bieglmayer C, Reiner A.
Department of Dermatology, University of Vienna Medical School, Austria.
BACKGROUND. The coincidence of climacteric symptoms and the beginning of skin aging suggests that estrogen deficiency may be a common and important factor in the perimenopausal woman. Often hormones have been considered important in endogenous aging of the skin, but their role has not been clearly defined. Therefore, we investigated, whether topical treatment of the skin with estrogen could reverse some of the changes in the aging skin. MATERIAL AND METHODS. The effects of 0.01% estradiol and 0.3% estriol compounds were compared in 59 preclimacteric women with skim aging symptoms. Monthly determinations of estrodiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and prolactin (PRL) were done and the monthly clinical monitoring was supplemented by measurements of skin hydration by corneometry and profilometry. In 10 patients, skin biopsies were taken for immunohistochemical determination of collagen types I and III. RESULTS. After treatment for 6 months, elasticity and firmness of the skin had markedly improved and the wrinkle depth and pore sizes had decreased by 61 to 100% in both groups. Furthermore, skin moisture had increased and the measurement of wrinkles using skin profilometry, revealed significant, or even highly significant, decreases of wrinkle depth in the estradiol and the estriol groups, respectively. On immunohistochemistry, significant increases of Type III collagen labeling were combined with increased numbers of collagen fibers at the end of the treatment period. As to hormone levels, only those of PRL had increased significantly and no systemic hormonal side effects were noted.

The estrogen and glycolic acid treatment apparently work on women near /around menopause age to increse collagen . However , would th same combination work on the face of a cross dresser around the same age who is obviously not a GG and hasnt the hormonal mix of a women ?
SuzzPS I forgot to add ‘would the effect be greater on the normal male face ?’
because of its normally lower estrogen levels ? -

Guest26/03/2007 at 12:00 amWarning on Estrogen. A very good dermatologist told me that when topically applied to the face, you can encourage ‘red veins’. He warned me clearly against this practice. Over to you.

Guest26/03/2007 at 4:31 amThat advice will be looked into. Your input, Amanda, and anyone elses input is all invaluable and greatly appreciated.
A lot of information is incomplete in cyber world and the medical world I do look into as much as I can and mention this on topics if known but I am not perfect.I am looking into restoring skin as much as I can towards youthfull levels. Admittedly I am getting there and also applying cream to areas that require it. I does take 6 months of patience to see results and yes results are there with the righ products. I will post results if I know they do work by personal experience.
Once collagen and elastin are at the best peak levels, follow up therapy with skin tightening machines will be more effective and longer lasting.I will also say that out of the blue my SO said my skin is better than hers.
She is now starting to catch on moreso than before
JaneApril 09 Update
Although I havn’t come across vein and topical estrogen as a negative at this stage I will still keep in mind, Amanda
I am also looking at phyto estrogen as a topical application. The research into youthfull skin is obtainable the workings and what goes with this and that and what is best and more effective and the age of the skin and the gender combination is a mine field that will take another month of so to assemble
There are two areas I am looking at Topical with estrogen type hormones and DHEA which breaks down to estrogen and testesterone in the skin but the breakdown is dirrerent in male and female and ther is a list of products ie minerals to support this
The other area is increasing collagen in arteries & veins and organ health with dosages of Vitamin C 5000mg daily Lysine 5000mg daily and proline 1000mg daily
Then think of the effect this will have on older skin and if you use ElIOS or IPL on top of that? Yes, The outcome will be interesting and impressive, youthfull skin
JaneUpdate 6/6/8
A new product has hit the market on estroigen skin creams. I will be posting this topic in June 2008

Guest06/06/2008 at 12:03 pmJust as there are proven ways to speed up skin degeneration, there now are documented methods to prevent and reverse it.
The population is revolting against unsightly skin deterioration by taking extraordinary steps to preserve the radiance of youth. The result is that aging people today do not have to look as old as previous generations.
This article uncovers novel approaches to looking younger that are available for the first time to the general public.
One reason that facial skin “shrivels†as we age is that our natural hormone production markedly declines. To make matters worse, blood microcirculation to our skin is reduced as we grow older, thereby depriving our skin of the small amount of natural hormones our body still makes.
A large number of published scientific studies reveal that estrogen exerts potent anti-aging effects on the skin.1-12 The topical application of natural estrogen can produce dramatic improvements to the skin without systemic absorption concerns.
How Estrogen Promotes Youthful Skin
As women enter menopause, their internal estrogen production sharply declines. The resulting estrogen deficit exacerbates the effects of both normal and environmental skin aging. According to the findings of a scientific study published last year, “estrogens prevent skin aging. They increase skin thickness and improve skin moisture.â€Â12 Another recent study came to the same conclusion, i.e. “skin aging can be significantly delayed by the admin-istration of estrogen.â€Â2A critical mechanism by which estrogen maintains a youthful plump appearance is to increase the synth-esis of collagen, which is the skin’s underlying support structure. Collagen atrophy is a major factor in skin aging. There is a strong correlation between skin collagen loss and estrogen deficiency at menopause.1
Skin aging, especially in the face, is associated with a progressive increase in sagging tissues and a reduction in elasticity. With advancing age, the skin becomes more fragile and susceptible to trauma, leading to more lacerations and bruising.1 In menopausal and postmenopausal women, estrogen administration increases collagen content, dermal thickness and elasticity, while decreasing aging dry skin.1,4 It is difficult to imagine aging women maintaining young looking skin in the absence of estrogen.
Estrogens exert significant effects on skin physiology by modulating the effects of key epidermal and dermal cells.2 In fact, the skin is an important estrogen-responsive endocrine tissue.3 Without the growth-promoting effects of estrogen, the skin literally withers away. The very thin skin observed in the elderly can be directly correlated to lack of estrogens needed to generate collagen and maintain skin thickness.3
Using Estrogen to Rejuvenate Your Skin
Topical estrogen application has been shown to be safe and effective in preventing skin aging. In a study published in February 2007, a group of women who were already taking oral estrogen drugs were given a topical 0.01% estrogen cream. After only four months, both dermal and epidermal thickness was enhanced, as well as dermal collagen levels. This study showed that topical estrogen application provided rapid and definitive anti-aging effects even in women who had high systemic estrogen blood levels.4 The significance of this study is that it shows how quickly a small amount of estrogen delivered directly into the skin induces profound anti-aging effects.A number of studies have investigated the beneficial role that estrogens, especially estriol, play in maintaining skin firmness, elasticity, moisture content, and wound healing in postmenopausal women.
Topically Delivered Estriol
Estriol is a weak estrogen when systemically administered, but it can induce potent anti-aging effects as a topical treatment. A six-month study of peri- and postmenopausal women was conducted at the University of Vienna in Austria comparing the topical application of estriol and estradiol creams. The doctors found that skin symptoms of aging improved, and that those treated with estriol obtained superior results, with no systemic hormonal side effects noted.5Scientists have developed topical creams to nourish the skin with estriol without subjecting users to the potential dangers of therapies containing more potent forms of estrogen.6,7
Derived from plants, estriol is a weak estrogen, so it does not need to be counterbalanced by progesterone and it does not have a systemic effect on the body. There is evidence that estriol, the so-called “good estrogen,†may inhibit some of the unwanted effects of estradiol by binding preferentially to estrogen receptor-beta.13
Edward Lichten, MD, author of the Textbook of Bio-Identical Hormones reports that no estriol was detected in blood measures of test subjects who used a topical estriol cream.14
Dr. John R. Lee, author of books like What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Menopause,8,9 concurred that estriol applied to the skin reverses wrinkling and should be an essential part of the anti-aging skin regimen. The Harvard-trained physician also wrote that estriol is the safest natural estrogen.
In a review of 45 scientific studies published in Alternative Medicine Review,10 estriol was found to be an effective and safe treatment with fewer side effects than traditional hormone-replacement therapy.15 Postmenopausal patients showed improved elasticity in the skin, while a study that included men and women with acne-damaged skin showed 100% improvement in repair of scarred tissue after three months of twice-weekly treatments.10
New Estriol-Based Face Solution
Dr. Edward Lichten and his wife Carolynne, a biochemist, have created a new face solution that has been shown to help combat many of the visible effects of aging. It combines estriol with 15 other ingredients to help lock in moisture and improve skin radiance, tighten the texture of the skin, enhance collagen and elastin, while reducing wrinkles and fine lines.16The objective was to develop an affordable face solution that included the latest anti-aging ingredients from around the globe. After the product had been developed, a scientific analysis was conducted to determine its effectiveness and confirm its safety. Twenty women with mild crow’s feet, rough-textured skin, and moderate skin tone with some blotching and imperfections used the product on only one side of their faces over a six-week period. Skin quality was evaluated before and after the test period using three laboratory devices. The Cutometer® was used to measure skin elasticity, a Corneometer® was used to evaluate skin moisture, and a Chromameter® to evaluate skin pigmentation.16
Patients as well as their physicians and the scientists conducting the tests provided subjective evaluations to complement the scientific measurements collected. All of the subjects reported that their skin texture was smoother and that the quality of their skin had improved, while 90% and 80% said that the moisture content and elasticity of their skin had increased, respectively, giving them a healthier and younger-looking appearance. Clinical assessments showed a baseline improvement of 19% increase in elasticity and 9% increase in moisture in the skin after just one week.16
Test subjects reported very satisfying results. “I saw an extremely noticeable change in my skin and overall appearance,†reported one subject. Other comments included a decrease in skin imperfections and discoloration; lessening of fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet; skin feeling more hydrated and firmerâ€â€better. Of the test subjects, 80% recommended the solution to their friends.16

Guest26/06/2008 at 11:56 pmHi all ,
I did a google on estrogen ,estradiol and estriol apply topically to facial skin and found a huge number of studies have been done on this with th e majority finding that these improved skin quality, reduce wrinkles and generally made subjects who used these creams look better
I looked at ebay and found people who are selling estriol creams fairly cheaply on there .So I guess you should give it a go …
mind you all the studies were done on GG females applying the stuff , but hey it may well work …

Guest09/07/2008 at 8:53 pmNew face seems to be more effective than anything I have used so far but for full results it does take TIME TIME TIME. Sometimes time is a pain.
I trust products from lef but anything else in conventional medicine. I am extremely cautious about convential medicine, even from my gender doctor where I have a disagreement with importance of pregesterone capping estrogen even as a TG.
Lef is also a non profit organisation and not hell bent in profitering like the major drug companies and from verbal contacts lef are very helpfull
New face is a product that nourishes and supports skin health . Chemical creams wax the surface of the skin so the skin feels soft and do not in very large part support skin health. LEF also give you the information what each part of the cream does while others do not, and that makes me even more suspicious. Chemical creams do some protection from the inviroment and retain moisture in the skin while using the product. If you stop using the product your skin reverts back to what is was very quickly. Yes it is effective in that way but not healthy. Don’t forget a lot of skin products also find their way into the blood stream and circulate in the body. Check any of the components of the creams you are using and GOOGLE it. See if they are cancerious. You may find a few suprises like the components of the ice cream you buy at the super marketI know what you have said in the past and I have tried to be critical towards estrogen based creams on that basis but have found some but very little evidence to support what your doctor said.
As always I have kept your concern and and many other concerns on a shelf in my mind but the books is always open .
Yes membership is a little exey but look what you get in return. A very large book on common medical problems from a good honest source and monthly magicine updateds sent to you.
There is a lot of information there. I have only covered a micro percentage of it all.Georgette
