Experience of panic in the car
Loretta’s horrible experience got me thinking of some panic times I’ve had, over the years, while out in the car.
Probably the worst was many years ago while on the way home from a night out, I had a puncture. Without much thought I jumped out of the car and started to change the tyre. I should point out that I was wearing a rather short skirt. I had got the tyre off and digging the spare out of the boot when a 4×4 pulled up and two men got out. The fear suddenly hit home and I was very frightened. As soon as I opened my mouth I knew I was in for trouble, they ‘made’ me straight away and became very verbal. Fists were raised and I really thought I was in for a bashing, help suddenly arrived in the form of an RACV man. The men out of the 4×4 departed and the RACV man stayed and finished changing the wheel for me. He explained he had been travelling in the opposite direction, seen me in trouble, and turned round to help. He was very nice, calmed me down, explained that I wasn’t the first TV/CD he had helped, and followed me part way home in case the 4×4 were to turn up again.
From that day on my plan has always been to stay in the car and ring the RACV.
