fabulous at every age …
thought i’d share some tips i found on yahoo (i hope they are of use) …
Forget a nip and tuck – all you need to look younger is a little TLC and our age-defying make-up tricks. Be your best all your life!
IN YOUR 20s
What to expect
Moving on from your hormonal teenage years, your skin may start to dry out and become flaky in certain areas.
Tiny lines will begin to form around your eyes and mouth.
Any sunburn during your childhood will begin to manifest in the form of uneven texture and hyperpigmentation.
What to do with…
Skin
Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and eye cream.
Use a non-comedogenic (non-clogging) sunscreen. This type of formula will help prevent breakouts.
Use a gentle facial scrub with tiny granules once a week to help keep your skin looking fresh.
Body
Slather on a rich body lotion to keep the skin on your arms and legs hydrated.
Apply an at-home self-tanner to give your skin a healthy and radiant glow without exposing yourself to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.
Make-up
Experiment with flirty and bright eye make-up and lip colours. The trick is to focus on one feature, either your eyes or lips. Don’t highlight both at the same time – if you have bright eye make-up apply a neutral lip colour, and vice versa.
Keep your base light and natural. It’s best to opt for either a tinted moisturiser or a lightweight foundation.
Pick a nail polish that ‘pops’ and don’t be afraid to try the latest colour trends.
Hair
You can get away with just about anything in your 20s, so experiment with fun hair colours and styles.
Shampoo your tresses every second day, to allow your hair’s natural oils to keep your locks hydrated.
When conditioning your hair, give your scalp a gentle massage. This will help keep hair healthy.
Anti-ageing must-haves
Bright nail polish
Coloured mascara
Flirty eyeshadow
Bold lipstick
IN YOUR 30s
What to expect
The fine lines around your eyes and mouth will become more noticeable.
If you become pregnant, hormonal changes can cause photosensitivity so be prepared for some hyperpigmentation. [do practise safe sex, girls!]
You could notice stretch marks and cellulite.
You may still be plagued by pimples.
After years of artificial colouring and heat styling, your hair may become dry.
What to do with…
Skin
Once a week, treat yourself to a home facial. Start with a scrub to remove dead skin cells, then follow with a clay mask to absorb oils and remove impurities.
Using moisturiser and sun protection is essential. Look for a hydrating face cream
with SPF30+ defence.Introduce your skin to a vitamin-C serum, worn underneath your moisturiser, to repair and even out your skin’s texture.
Wear a rich eye cream that combats dark circles and smooths wrinkles.
Body
Before you shower, spend two minutes dry-brushing your body. This will boost circulation and aid the removal of toxins.
Use a body cream that contains a built-in self-tanner. It will gradually colour and nourish your skin at the same time.
If your hands are often exposed to sunlight, they’ll age more quickly. Invest in a nourishing hand cream containing sunblock.
Make-up
Wear a creamy foundation that delivers a natural glow. Ensure the shade matches the skin on your chest.
Define your cheekbones with a pink powder blush. Start at the cheeks and blend up and out to your temples and hairline.
Make your eyes stand out. Outline them with a black eyeliner pencil on the top and bottom lash lines, then gently soften the lines with an eyeshadow brush.
If you wear bright lipstick, keep your eye make-up simple with neutral eyeshadow and two coats of black mascara.
Hair
Visit your hairstylist every six to eight weeks to trim split ends.
When using heated appliances such as straightening irons, be sure to use a thermal heat protector to avoid damaging your hair.
Once a week, apply an intense hair mask to enhance shine.

IN YOUR 40s
What to expect
The skin on your face and body will start to lose its natural elasticity, smoothness and firmness, causing your skin to sag.
Spider veins, cellulite and stretch marks will become more obvious.
If you go through the menopause, you will notice your hormones fluctuating, which can result in your skin breaking out or becoming sensitive.
Your hair will begin to thin out, making your style less bouncy. Individual strands may also become fine.
What to do with…
Skin
Improve your skin’s suppleness by using a product pumped with antioxidants such as vitamins A, C and E.
Every night after cleansing, massage a night cream onto your face and neck. These creams are designed to be absorbed while you sleep, which is when your skin’s natural renewal process occurs.
Upgrade your exfoliator to one with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). It will be much gentler on your skin and help to resurface with fresh new cells.
Body
Rub a quality cellulite and stretch-mark cream into problem areas.
Speed up skin renewal by using a body scrub every second day.
Use a bust cream, massaging it in with upward strokes. This will help to firm and
lift the area.Make-up
To turn back the clock and give your complexion a youthful, dewy finish, add a drop of illuminator to your liquid foundation.
Use a light-diffusing concealer to hide dark circles under your eyes and cover any imperfections.
For a healthy, flushed look, swap your powder blush for a cream formula in an apricot shade.
Inject colour into your face instantly with a brightly coloured lipstick.
Hair
Once a month, indulge in an at-home hair treatment to improve the condition of your locks.
Give flat hair a new lease on life and add volume by cutting layers into your style.
Use a gloss serum or spray to restore your hair’s shine.

IN YOUR 50s
What to expect
You’ll see significant changes to your skin during your 50s. You may notice a slight darkening of your skin tone due to exposure to sunlight and post-menopausal hormones. [shouldn’t be a problem here, girls]
Your skin will become thinner, but don’t panic – it’s totally normal and easy to manage.
Grey hair will become widespread, as will any thinning.
What to do with…
Skin
Use a heavy-duty eye cream and apply an intense eye mask treatment once a week.
Anti-ageing products will even out skin tone, combat dehydration and smooth wrinkles.
Body
Massage a firming cream all over your body, focusing on thighs, buttocks, arms and breasts.
Before bedtime, spend two minutes rubbing in hand and foot cream. Smear the leftover lotion onto your elbows.
Continue to eat healthy food and exercise regularly. Good circulation boosts the skin and keeps it radiant.
Make-up
To create a healthy glow, contour your face with bronzer around the hairline, temples and under the jaw.
Define your features with a highlighter. A touch on the cheekbone, top of the lip line and on the brow bone is all you need.
To divert attention from creepy eyelids, avoid shimmery eye shadows as they can accentuate fine lines. Instead opt for a neutral eyeshadow shade paired with a lipstick in a matte texture.
Hair
Freshen up your look by changing your hairstyle. Speak to your stylist about updating your cut into a modern bob or adding layers for volume.
Have regular treatments to nourish and strengthen your hair.
Lighten your locks. Add highlights around your face to help brighten your complexion.

Matte lipstick

IN YOUR 60s+
What to expect
You won’t notice big changes from your 50s onwards but any existing problems will be more obvious. A major skin concern will likely be uneven texture and dullness.
You’ll find that your individual hair strands will feel thicker and coarser. This is because grey hairs are naturally more coarse than coloured strands.
You may also notice your eyebrows and lashes gradually thinning out.
What to do with…
Skin
Invest in a routine that targets problems such as age spots and dehydration.
Every morning, apply an SPF30+ sunscreen and wear a hat and sunglasses when outdoors.
Wear a brightening serum containing vitamin C to lighten and even out the skin.
Body
Flush toxins out of your system by walking and drinking eight glasses of water daily.
Use a thick cream on cracked skin and scars, particularly on your heels and knees.
Give yourself regular pedicures and shape your nails to prevent ingrown toenails.
Make-up
Use a primer before applying foundation to create a smooth base and rejuvenate skin. Also use it on your lids to stop eyeshadows creasing, and on your lips to prevent lip colour bleeding.
Eliminate any shine on your T-zone [that’s above the brows and down the nose] with a translucent powder, but don’t apply too much to lines and wrinkles; the powder will sink into the skin, making them more visible.
Fill in sparse brows with an eyeshadow in a similar shade to your brow colour. For a natural look, brush the shadow onto your brows with short, light brush strokes.
Play up your eyes with natural eyeshadow and lots of mascara on the top lashes only.
Blusher will instantly refresh your face. Use a cream formulation if your skin is dry.
Pump up your pout with apricot, beige or pink lippy, and paint nails in a similar shade.
Hair
As we age our skin colour can become lighter. You may want to reconsider your
hair colour, as lighter shades are generally more flattering and will help to hide grey and make regrowth less obvious.Silver shampoo counteracts brassiness and fading for grey, white or blonde hair, and colour-enhancing shampoo enlivens dark hair.
