false nails; how to get them to stick?
Posted by Anonymous on 31/05/2013 at 11:14 amHi Girls.
I hope someone can help me out with my problem. I have been using false nails but can not get them to STICK. It gets really frustrating. I’ve tried the glue that comes with them, Superglue, stickytape and double-sided tape but nothing works for me. Does anyone have a solution, please? Painting my normal nails won’t cut it; I need the aritificial ones to get the feminine feel and look.
Any ideas?Take care, hugs and kisses to all.

A couple of questions, Sally.
Is the arching across the width of the artificial nails greatly different than your real nails?
If so, then there’s going to be far less contact area for any adhesive to work with.
Too high an arch on the false nails to your real nails, and the centre of the false nails will not stick.
Too low an arch on the false nails to your real nails, and the sides of the false nails will not stick. You say that even superglue won’t keep the false nails attached.
Does superglue have similar lack of sticking problems for sticking things to your fingernails?Jenifur Charne

Guest31/05/2013 at 11:15 pmFirst you need to file your nails so yes there not smooth they need to be rough, next get some nail glue which is made to stick acrylic tips on then apply glue to the false nail then wait about 30 secs then attach to your own nail plate pushing it in a downwards motion it should stick in a min.
But warning they won’t just pull off they will be there till they move away from the natural nail plate.
I’m a beauty therapist and I can do acrylic and gel nails but the differences between stick on nails and acrylics are with acrylic the natural nail plate is treated with a dehydrator and bonding agent before the acrylic is applied making it harder to lift.
Also while doing nails also push back cuticals with a orange wood stick which will make them look heaps neater.

Guest02/06/2013 at 9:53 pmHi Sally,
I’ve always been a fan of nice, long nails. Never complete without them.
Over many a year…I have found that the cheapest of artificial nails are just fine, once you’ve found a brand that is close to size and shape without too much preparation for fit. All will need a bit of filing and shaping to get the snuggest of fits. The glue that comes with any of the nails I’ve used I have found to be pretty useless (I like a quick prep time and a good result..). My technique uses super glue…and have stuck (pardon the pun..) with Selleys only as others just seem to be not as good. It’s the yellow lid ‘Fix n go’ one. Don’t use the gel version. The trick to good bonding is how much to use, and where exactly on the nail to use it. I have found the strongest fix, which is hard to break off unless you want it to….is achieved by placing 3 only small ‘dots’ of the glue on your nail, not the false nail. No bigger than a 1mm dot, have one at the top centre (just below your nail tip) and the other two on the sides (at the widest part of your nail a couple of mm’s in from edge skin). Place the false nail on and squeeze your nail on your finger firmly (I use my other hand thumb on the nail and another finger under to give a good area squeeze). You only need to hold 5-7 secs firmly. I don’t put false nails on my thumb, I have let them grow enough to get away without adding. I do this because I’ve found the most common time you’ll lose a nail is the lil toilet visits. When undoing this and that to access crucial parts for the visit, one can need some end of finger leverage. So, I have what I call my working thumbs…if there is any ‘work’ that might require any end of finger strength without the fear of nails breaking, they can do it lol
When you want to remove them, I use the other thumb to cover the whole nail, and ‘lever’ the extended part of the nail downwards. This might take some pressure, but ensures a clean removal without damaging the nail…ready for re-cycling. I find that I can usually get a good half a dozen wears from the nails, before the glue (which mostly stays with the nail when removed) builds up to the point of the nail sitting too raised.Hope that helps?

Guest03/06/2013 at 11:43 amPerhaps you have oily nails, or an oily residue left over from your nail polish or polish remover, that would stop a lot of glues from working properly.
Tarzans grip used to melt my plastic models, hope false nails are tougher than them. Loctite is an industrial glue used to stop automotive components from coming apart so unless you want to wear them pretty much permanently don’t use that.
A gel type superglue would fill gaps and furrows in your nails but it dries slower than the runnier instant type of super glue. So you would have to be careful until it dried properly.
Hope this has been of some help.

Thank you all for the ideas and tips. I will try different glues and some other ideas and when I find a solution, I will drop by and let everyone know what worked.
