I am currently setting up a library of books on transgendered issues for the Carrousel Club in SA (which is a transgendered support group for those who have not heard of us; sort of like an SA Seahorse Society). Can you all think of a few self help books that have been particularly usefull in understanding and living with gender dysphoria such as True Selves, The Uninvited Dilema and of course The Gender Trap. I will then seek to buy these on behalf of the Club unless anyone wishes to donate a copy!!; I knowall of my books will be going into the library,

    Thanks Everyone,

    Regards

    Sandy

I have just read Helen Boyd’s two books, My Husband Betty and She’s not the Man I Married and found them both very informative. They are a bit confronting in parts and brutally honest in others, neither of which are a bad thing. I would recommend them to anyone to read.

I enjoyed Noelle Howey’s Dress Codes – it’s about her father’s journey from male to female. Jan Morris’ Conundrum is also worth reading. I Am My Own Wife by Charlotte von Mahlsdorf is interesting too – she was a crossdresser in Hitler’s and then in Communist Berlin. If I can find Dress Codes I’m happy to send it to you, I Am My Own Wife is in the original German though.

By the way – a book search on crossdressing on Amazon generates 666 hits – sort of a neat number!

I found “The Lazy CrossDresser” by Charles Anders a good read. It has lots of good advice, specially for those time poor people ( or is that enthusiastically challenged )

    Hi Sandy,
Try The Praeger Book of transexuality by Rachael Heath
    Transgender Emergence by Arlene Lev
Principles of TRansgender Medicine and Surgery by Ettner, Monstrey and Eyler

I recently re-read Head Over Heels, by Virginia Erhardt, and She’s Not the Man I Married, by Helen Boyd. They address partners’ issues. They should be compulsory reading for anyone in a relationship with a T* person, and for any T* person in a relationship. I’m also re-visiting Trans Liberation by Leslie Feinberg and Transgender Nation by Gordene Mackenzie, for a good dose of politics.

My favorite book is “My Gender Workbook” by Kate Bornstein it is practical guide to living with or without gender, quite humorous in parts but very thought provoking and gets you to take a long hard look at yourself and the world around you.
