I have been experimenting with foundation and cannot seem to find an acceptable way to get a smooth uniform cover.

I have tried fingers, makeup sponges and brushes but to no avail.

Can anyone suggest a method and maybe the best brand for ease of application, this is really starting to bug me?

Are you cleansing and toning brfore hand ?
Try having a damp sponge. Also foundation works best if you use a primer of the same brand say napoleon foundation napoleon primer.

And when you say smooth out are we talking wrinkles ? Fine lines ? Acne scaring ?

Foundations are only part of a solution skin care must be the first port of call…

Bearing in mind that makeup is all about illusion, I’ve found that nothing beats getting expert personal advice on something as central as foundation.

There are several variables to consider, including the particular characteristics of your skin and the nature of the foundation in question.

At the high end, nothing seems to beat getting a “makeover” from an experienced makeup artist in a MAC store. MAC are choosy about who they employ. Best ring beforehand. Be totally upfront and explain that you need some good advice. Usually, they’ll be equally upfront and friendly, letting you know if; when, and where they can accommodate you. Alternatively, they may be able to point you in the direction of a makeup artist known to them, who they think would be likely to help.

Otherwise, in my experience, there are always a few professional makeup artists around who specialise in weddings and/ or modelling and who are also comfortable offering helpful insights to trans folk. As there are at least a couple of fabulously experienced makeup artists here in Perth who have been very helpful to many of us, I have little doubt that Sydney will have several.

    Hello Pamela,

Whilst a good make up artist or someone from Mac Cosmetics would be good, if could can do so, a makeover with Ophelia from Cross Dress with Class in Sydney would be even better.

That’s cos she will give you more advice than just make up. IE How to improve your whole “feminine you”.

She was at TF and goes to most Seahorse NSW meetings

Good luck and if you do get there, enjoy “my share”. (I don’t have a viable excuse/reason to get up there…)

    Happy Dressing

I’m a makeup artist but I’ve never done makeup on an trans people before, I can show you my work but I can’t post photos of people on forums due to respect to friends clients.

I would suggest go on you tube have a look at tutorials aimed towards trans makeup it’s free and can be fun.

Mainstream makeup artists will charge you around 50 – $60 for a service maybe even more and will push there products.

Also how comfortable are u say going into tafe and having a student work on you they do camouflage makeup now too.

Also can you list about your needs say do you know your skin type ? Do you have reactions to products ? Do you need to correct stuff like fine lines etc?

As I get older the pores in my skin seem to be getting bigger and deeper. The only way I am able to get a good even coverage with foundation is to use a moisturizer, let it dry, and then apply foundation with a brush with relatively short but soft bristles by stippling it on, not painting it on as that just leaves brush strokes. If you stipple, the bristles will push the foundation into the pores and give a much evener coverage. Wait till the foundation dries then apply powder over the top.
I borrowed from the library ‘Wakeup Makeup’, revitalizing your look at any age by Lois Joy Johnson and Sandy Linter a book on applying makeup. Lots of good advice and tips for beginners

As for a brand I have found L’Oreal to be very good. It was recommended by another CD I correspond with in the US

hi i found if you stipple your foundation on you squirt foundation on your wrist and take a brush dab it on then just tap it on your face until you get a nice even finish dont brush your face is not a house
O yes i keep one brush for that it will eventuly destory the brush.

before you use your foundation use a moisturiser like nutraplus it will stop the foundation cracking on a hot day and its also great for your skin

when chooseing a foundation check what skin type you are oily dry skin and choose o shade darker than your skin

    hope this helps
