Not sure if this is where to post this

As you’ve probably seen, there’s a FtM TS having his 2nd baby. Seems the media are enjoying selling more copy by flogging this as a freak show

It’s been a topic of conversation in the tea room at work on quite a few occassions. Most of even the more enlightened GGs I work with are behaving in an extremely transphobic manner. really carrying on: “you’re not a man, love, your a girl!”, “oh, it’s just gross” and so it goes on.

I’ve tried to simply explain that he’s a ts and identifies as a man. Didn’t work. I’ve tried look dissaprovingly, especially at people who I think should know better. Funnily enough, this didn’t work either. Yesterday I got up and left. Pretty sure this wouldn’t have worked either!

So, my question is, does anyone out there have a few lines they use in this siutaiton?

Making a statement about human rights is probably something I’ll give a go; probably somehting along the lines of live and let live for a start

If/when people make homophobic remarks, I usually throw to the classic “not that there’s anything wrong with that” Seinfeld line. This works pretty well a lot of the time as it doesn’t bring the mood down; juyst gently reminds people. Not sure that would work this time as I think the oppinion is that there IS something wring with that.

Anyone esle experiencing this at the moment? Anyone with some sage words of advice?

(I can’t imagine, apart from the money why anyone would put themselves out there for the likes of 60 minutes and the trash magazines?? It’s not doing us any favours)

Yes I agree, its not doing anyone any favors apart for building their bank balance assuming they are being paid for the interviews.

I watched 60 mins and I have seen other parts of the same interview on U tube and a early morning breakfast show. I did not like the way they make a big joke out of shocking the interviewer, I felt that showed some disrespect for the entire situation. I also don’t like the way they complain about the media attention, as they are virtual prisoners in their own home because of Paparazzi, but they continue to give the interviews??

I do agree with what they are doing in terms of building their family, as they pretty much have no other choice apart from adoption. They appear to be a loving family.

However the publicity they are creating is not good, it should be kept private, especially for future well being of the children. In my opinion.

60 Minutes and many other TV Programs that claim to be ‘News Magazine” shows – pay for interviews. So the ‘guest’ is under pressure to ‘perform’. Please take these programs all with a grain of salt as most television is just entertainment and not informative journalism. The programs after the commercial stations evening news are notorious for being the former.

My take on it is that the guy is performing an amazing sacrifice so that his barren partner can have childen. He will still be the father. I don’t think any non trans person will ever get this though.
    Take care

I havent seen or read the interviews amd probably wont, so I don’t know much about their situation, nor do I care really. More power to them I say

The publicity and the reaction of otherwise (seemingly) tolerant, open minded and accepting people (like th eones who’ve accepted my sexuality and know a little of my dressing, if not TG’erdness) is my concern.

Imagine if Denton had interviewed them instead

    Hi all,

My two cents worth. I saw the interview in question and a couple of things jumped out at me immediately.

Firstly, the interviewer blantantly did not approve. Not once did she congratulate on the birth of their first daughter, and not when they announced the second pregancy. As a “professional” interviewer she should have the common curtesy to withhold judgement, but then again this is the U.S. 60 minutes when journalistic standards are laughable.

Secondly, the couple in question came across as very single minded, dare I say selfish. I don’t think they have even considered the impact that their unusual situation will have on the child(ren). I don’t doubt their sincerity but those kids are going to have a hell of a time in 10 years time, especially in the U.S.

As a parent of 2 myself I am accutely aware of what I do could have significant ramifications for all my family.

I just hope their family unit is absolutely rock solid, it’s going to need to be.

You can’t expect much more from the mass media that tends to er on the side of caution and projects news for conservatives. I think it’s wonderful that they’re having another baby and I wish them all the best.

My partners sister is in a lesbian relationship and after almost a year of agonizing with artificial ensemination we’ve just heard the news that she’s finally conceived.

I wish the best of luck to any same sex, non conventional, non hetero couple out there trying against the odds to have children.

this is a very complex case as he is not a genetic male and ths can not be said a “male” has given birth just like until the time society and medical science coem up with ways to complets us trans girls and give us ovaries and make us able to menstrate that should one of us be blessed with giving birth there would be debates….. yes ive sat and had debates and tried to explain how is is male but the argument well has he a penis etc now just as while i transition i get hurt with you still have a penis atm yes its true..i dont know there is a clear argument for or against this situation apart from he should of been born male as i should of been born fully female and he has gone against his male ways to carry a child for his wife so he must love her and want to be a father so much to do what to him is probably not “natural” well it makes sense to me but ill prob get i dotn follow you jess:)_
