  • Getting a wig to fit a larger head

Posted by Melissa_Mills on 03/03/2008 at 3:49 am

I am looking for other wig options but unfortunately due to the size of my head, most wigs or hats for that matter, wont fit me as they are usually way too small.
I do know of one site that has wigs big enough and have bought a few wigs from them but the quality while fair, isnt the best.
So does anyone know of wig shops both in australia or overseas that have wigs that cater to someone whose hat size would be at least 65cm.
Or maybe just some tips or tricks to expand a regular wig to fit.

    thanks

Mel, I was lucky enough to get a very good wig from the Hairhouse warehouse in Melbourne, cool style, great fit and adjuster straps at the Back. Have a website address: http://www.hairhousewarehouse.com.au/ Also get in contact with Bonnie’s wig boutique based in Adelaide. Great service prsonally, but they do sell on line and my experience of the boutiques is really positive.

Hope that gives you a couple of ideaas.

    Thanks Helen,

I did go to a Hairhouse Warehouse in Brisbane and while they had a few wigs there, none of them fitted properly.
I contacted that site in america where I bought my other wigs and asked them for any advice and they said that they contacted their suppliers and not surprisingly, none of their fancier wigs are going to be big enough for me.
    The search continues

You can always try getting a wig styled, I have a very large head and I get a GG friend of mine to style my wigs in a way that it covers what it needs to and looks great. I only dress in a few places and not everyday so im not sure my look would work if you want to pass but im sure a style could be done to work in any situation.

I’ve now done the rounds in Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle (well, 1 store) and the Gold Coast and nobody has a wig big enough. Even that site in america that I ordered from previously, they only have one style of wig that will fit me and even then, its a very limited selection of colours and I dont particularly like the one that they have anyway.
Surely with all the wig manufacturers out there, with all the sites on the internet, there has to be ones that are big enough.
I guess my only other option is to get one custom made but they wont be cheap

    Thanks Sally
Most suppliers I’ve contacted say their wigs will cater up to 23″ size heads but unfortunately, as my head is 65cms, I need at least a 25″ size and what I’ve found so far has been very, very limited

    Hi Melissa,

I have just received the latest brochure from Glamour Boutique in the USA. One of their monthly specials is an “extra large size wig for extra large size heads” – price on special $US23.95. (Postage is approx. $US14.95 for one overseas postage article). Check wig specials – link is http://www.glamourboutique.com

    Hi Terri
This is who I’ve been getting my wigs from in the past. When I was in america last time, I actually got to try some of their wigs on in their Las Vegas store so I know they would fit me.
They only list one “extra large” wig still on their website and there are only limited colours available so I’ve gone ahead and ordered one, even though I dont necessarily like either the style or the colour but as its the pretty much the only one that will fit, I thought I’d better grab one while there are still any left
