“Girl”
“Girl” is a Belgian film about a 15-year-old called Lara who lives with her father and small brother. Lara aspires to be a ballet dancer and is good enough to be accepted into a ballet school. But she has a problem: she was born into the body of a boy. Lara is played very convincingly by Viktor Polster, a Belgian actor and ballet dancer. She suffers a lot from her constant battle to hide her penis and the drastic step she finally takes. The DVD I watched had no subtitles but I was able to follow the story reasonably well; the spoken language is mainly Flemish with a smattering of French and English. It was a nominee for the “Best Motion Picture Foreign Language ” at the Golden Globe Awards.
