Grooming
Posted by Deleted User on 01/02/2018 at 11:51 pmI was thinking of hair and removal the other day, while in the shower attending to this chore if you must know. I do try to keep this ol bod as smooth as possible, wrinkles notwithstanding, but I then wondered, what would be a good way to get to the awkward areas? Gymnastics in the shower are bad enough, no I don’t have a bath sadly. But satisfactorily attending to the back is difficult and as I have a number of clothing items that are a bit low at the rear this is a bit desirable. .
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome, apart from waxing, been there done that.Deleted User replied 6 years, 11 months ago 7 Members · 15 Replies -

Hello Claire I have a device called a man groomer from the Shaver Shop, basically a battery operated groomer with a long adjustable handle, works well for me, I can reach all of my back, even with dud shoulders

Sounds a bit like a selfie stick, which in a way, it probably is! 😆I just had a look at one at E Bay, it is long! $67.00. Bargain.

Deleted User03/02/2018 at 6:47 amHi Claire, I have been researching laser hair removal on and off for a couple of years now, my personal goal is to reduce the 5 o’clock I have. A couple of weeks ago I took the plunge and made an appointment with a local beautician for a consultation to remove my chest hair, let’s see how this goes on the chest before we work on the face. The beautician was excellent in explaining the procedure and results I can expect, and I felt confident and comfortable with her. I filled out a questionnaire about my general health and prescription’s I’m on. The following evening I had the first treatment, there is a small amount of pain associated with each laser shot, and the worst was over the breast bone, but Margaret turned the lasers power down to reduce this and used a cold wand on the recently treated areas. I also used cold packs on my breast bone areas at home and the next day all was good, I was treated over different part of my entire chest, it will take a couple more treatments to get a better idea of how good the laser is, but I will keep anyone interested updated with my progress. Deleted User03/02/2018 at 7:09 amThank you Rosemary, that will be if great interest to me if not to everyone. I have read different comments about lazer and electrolysis. Evidently its effectiveness can often depend on the original hair colour?
One benefit of getting to a ‘certain age’ is beard shadow isn’t as much a problem as it once was. Although being naturally fair skinned and fair haired, well, used to be, it wasn’t a major issue.
I shall look forward to hearing more. -

Deleted User04/02/2018 at 3:24 amHi Clare, here’s a short blog on, Laser Hair Removal, (LHR), to understand a little about how LHR works first understand a simplified explanation on how colour works, The whiter an object is the more light it reflects, this goes through the colour spectrum, think of a rainbow, with different colours reflecting/absorbing different amounts of light, at the end of the spectrum is black which absorbs all the light, no reflection. How does LHR work?” A concentrated laser beam of light is aimed at hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment, which damages the follicle enough to retard future growth. Does it hurt, depending on your pain tolerance, lasers can feel like a gentle pinch or the snap of a hot rubber band, my beautician lowers the power when working over the bone but it is noticeable, the pain we women will endure in our indulgence’s in vanity. I have not tried waxing or electrolysis so can’t compare it to either of these treatments. How much does it cost, most spa’s offer packages that you pay with the first treatment, I am having a 6 treatment package for just over $500. The procedure isn’t permanent. “Hair grows in indeterminate cycles, and it needs to be caught in the growth phase for the procedure to be effective, results differ widely from person to person. Do’s and don’ts, let the area to be treated grow, your beautician will need dark hairs 3-4 mm long, Tanning-from either the sun or a bottle-is a no-no before a laser treatment, since darker skin absorbs the light before it can reach the follicles, do not use moisturizers and creams prior to treatment it blocks your skin pores. Use cold packs on the treated area if you find it hot and painful. I’m happy to write more on my LHR if anyone is interested just message me with a question if you want to. Rosemary

Deleted User04/02/2018 at 4:10 amThank you Rosemary, for that in-depth information. It sounds like I missed the boat as far as Laser is concerned, hair is definitely not dark and it would probably need a lot of work. Ah well, them’s the breaks.

I had IPL treatment on my chest about 2 years ago. There were 6 sessions and as others have said there is some pain (no pain no gain!). The result was almost no dark hairs on a lightly hairy chest. Some grey hairs continue and a few dark ones; but once a week with a bit of a razor these are kept in check now. So I am very happy with this result.
Late last year I decided to do IPL on my face. I had enough of trying to use beard concealer in the morning, then normal concealer, powder, then foundation, then more powder. This treatment would last from early morning to only late afternoon and then a shadow would appear – not a great look when you are still out and about.
I had 6 sessions initially each about 2 week apart. Before this my beard was most noticeable on my top lip and around the chin i.e., the darker hairs. I did have quite a few grey hairs as well. It was somewhat more painful than the chest but the same as above you just have to grin and bear it thinking of how good it will be when all over!
After this initial treatment most of the dark hairs were gone and I no longer needed to use beard concealer. The growth of the remaining dark hairs reduced and the density also reduced. I still have a level of grey hairs but even they seem to have reduced in rate of growth.I decided to do a second course of 6 sessions. I have 3 more to go and based on the current regrowth and hair darkness I hope that I will no longer have to worry about the 5 o’clock shadow again. I think I should be able to use makeup just like any other female i.e., apply as much as I want depending on the occasion. A lighter application for day and maybe more heavy for night.
Hope this helps other ladies

I was literally a [strike]guerrilla[/strike] gorilla 😆 and I mean it, I even had lots of hairs on my back. When I started to realise what’s going on with me, my partner encouraged me to go for laser hair removal.
My case, I had 10+ time on my face and at least 6 times on arms, back, chest and stomach. and I also after a while started taking Spiractin hormone-blockers.
I can say combination of laser and blockers works pretty good for me and I look more like a young boy now than a [strike]guerrilla[/strike] gorilla
cheers girls

Deleted User05/02/2018 at 6:01 amI have had laser treatment all over my back and front and it was effective for dark hairs (I have pale skin) after a number of treatments. I found it quite bearable and even quite pleasurable at times (maybe I’m a bit pervy!). Some has grown back and i’m Having that redone now. I also had electrolysis because I was left with loads of white hairs. That has proved painful, costly and difficult although I seem to be nearing the end now. Also it has left a healing issue on my chest which is taking time but I am sure it will get there eventually. NOT for the faint hearted and you need to be dedicated to go through this!
Good luck

cheers girlsI apologise in advance, I have tried to ignore it. But I can’t.
1/ Guerrilla is a member of a small independent group taking part in irregular fighting, typically against larger regular forces. I believe you mean gorilla, and in any case…..,
2/ You can’t literally ‘be’ a gorilla, as in actually, really be a gorilla.
Again, apologies, but I need my sleep. -

😆 😆 😆 Thanks girls, I laughed a lot to your comments, and I sort of edited my [strike]Guerrilla[/strike] gorilla message.

No worries Sana, I have the same ‘second language’ problem, English is my first one. (Australian is very odd at times. )
