TgR Wall Forums Transgender Radio Admin… Hosting problems – resolved

I have been increasingly disappointed with the performance of the TR website – when it isn’t Optus/Bigpond stuffing up the trans-pacific route – it seems to be the server farm in the US going off-line.

So its time to take action – and move the server to Sydney!
What does this mean other than
    a) a lot of work for the admin
    b) a lot more expensive bandwidth

Well…the web site will have to come down for a day at the most whilst the new address for TR ripples round the internet.

And…as all the email accounts will have to be recreated by hand – I’m proposing weeding out the xxxxxx@austranny.com aliases that were offered many years ago. Mail to these aliases will be collected and the alias will only be restored when the first email is received. That way we won’t have to spend ages recreating mail accounts that are not used.

And I’m sure we will have bugs for the first week or so.

But after that we should find the performance is much more reliable – especially to those of us in Sydney!

    Status update:
I have taken out a hosting package with our current provider but based in Sydney not the USA.

    The porting process has started.

At this time the only change is that it is no longer possible to edit or load new pictures to your gallery or avitar.
This will allow the gigabyte of members portraits to be transferred between the servers.

The DNS servers have been switched and now trannyradio is being hosted in Sydney. There are a few small bugs I have noticed but in general itall seems to be up and running again.

I’ll enable the profile pictures when I have a chance to check out the functionality ….

The premier member photo albums and avatar uploading have been re-enabled after the move.

This means that the transfer of the web site from the USA to Sydney has been completed.
