I chose progynova simply because I objected to the manner in which premarin was harvested from horses. I’m not much of a greenie, but that just seemed a little cruel to me.

I use progynova as it comes highly recommended and i also do not wish to use product from horses. I also use provera and spirotne, In the short time I HAVE BEEN ON THESE i BELIVES THEY ARE DOING THE JOB WELL THOUGH I do get impatient along way but my friends boost my self confidence in commenting on changes they note:))

    Hi girls,
I am on Progynova, having considered the animal and discussions with the Doctor. 4mg a day with 100mg spironolactone per day. I used herbal preparations for two years which gave me a A+ breast size before seeing the Doctor. In four months I have progressed to a nearly full B cup.
Due to remaining high levels of testosterone, I consulted the Doctor and he said I could try different dosages of Progynova. I have no problem with the Progynova until I tried 8mg per day for seven days. Due to the really noticeable moodiness, I had to go back to 4mg on the seventh day, One day later, I was back to my usual self. I suspect that I had PMT like symptoms due to the high levels oestrogen.

    Hugs
    Norah.

    Hi Anee,
For over 20 years I happily took Provera and Premarin.
NB: Dosage can only be determined individually with regular monitoring of serum levels.
After reaching age 50 my GP raised the issue that I was at an age where my oestrogen levels should be lower. The Endocrinologist dismissed this notion. Significantly, always, my blood pressure has remained at a healthy low level, and my liver function normal.
(I was smoking cigarettes, but otherwise a healthy lifestyle, and knotty varicose veins)

About 3 years ago I developed a 5cm thrombosis in my calf (thankfully not a DVT – deep vein thrombosis). Specialist had retired, so found another who ceased the oral oestrogen and commenced me on SANDRENA Gel 0.1% at night, and continued with the Progesterone, and Aspirin for blood thining’
Reason being, the oral oestrogen is metabolised through the liver before being able to go forth and do its good works. This has a direct effect on blood clotting factors. Implants, patches and gels are absorbed directly into the bloodstream and do not need to be metabilised by the liver.

At 56 my blood levels remain at the upper range found with most fertile women. I’m still seeking some guidance on this issue. I should be menopausal, but I know if I stop the oestrogen, as there is no testosterone to protect my bones, I will quickly develop osteoporosis and crumple up (very literally I believe)
In addition: I’ve always been considered to look borderline anorexic. Over the past several years I’ve developed a fuller figure. I realise I’m not burning up as much as I once did, and I haven’t acquired a BMI in the overweight range yet, but …..

Having “normal” hormones in your body is bliss, but please, just be sensible. Don’t allow the Specialists to just hand you a script. Insist on discussing these things. Your health must come first, before whatever your blood levels are

Two things have been the most magical moments
The morning after – waking up and knowing “that thing” has gone forever
The day they gave me my corrected Birth Certificate
Oh yes, almost forgot. Receiving a letter signed by Attorney General Phillip Ruddock, advising me that I could now legally marry a man. Well, maybe that wasn’t in the same ‘magical’ class. I suppose if I ever turn straight – being a woman, I have that choice open to me. Isn’t stbble the most disgusting gross out.

    Take Care
    Be Brave. Life Is Joyous

    Blessings
    Christina

Hi Anee…….I have only been on HRT since Christmas eve, 2008. My Doctor put me on Oestradiol 1,0mg ” Sandrena” Gel. I had been on Spironolactone 100mg for quite some months previously. I am still taking the Spiro untill my scripts run out but the Doctor has replaced it with Cyproterone Acetate, 100mg. These are all one per day doses.
A lot of people have not used or even heard of Oestriol Gel. I know some who hate is and said it did nothing for them.
Now this just shows how different we all are……within one month my hormone levels were spot on….520 Oestrogen and , I think, 0.01 Testosterone. The gel is great because it’s absorbed through the skin and therefore doesn’t effect the liver.

    Cheers

    Monique

hi … Monique the testosterone seems low . nmol should be in the range of 1 . 9 to 1 . 25 or close to . mine is 1 .8 like i know each of us are different . so just thinking it may be a bit low .we all still need some testo
there is a point though is your testo will no drop from nmol male from 32 to 35 . in that short a time it takes about 2 to 3 years . i know one girl who.s did drop a lot sooner . un less the dose is so high you go nuts your body can not handle such a short shift i would check your numbers i did my test 3 months then 6 months then evey year now so i know whats going on ..worth having a look .i .v been on h r t over 4 years now ..

    Hi Girls,

I am discussing estrogen patches with my GP on Wed this week. The comments and posts have been so helpful and I have just applied to join the Crone group.

I’ll post some info on what outcome of my meeting is!

    Hi all,
    estrofem 2mg 2/day
    and
    Spironolactone 25mg x2 x twice a day,

The patches were ok but seemed very light on (low dose)

I pop a few extra pills every now and then, too many do make me tired and a bitt ill.

Its a new road, best wishes to all.
