    Hi Ladies
I was listening to a talk on the radio whilst driving from work yesterday about the recent plight of legitimately employed trans ladies in Indonesia having their hair cut off by the police and forced to run around the streets until they started talking and acting like men again. They were also forcibly detained so they could complete a five day re education programme. Paradoxically whilst many trans women have to find work as prostitutes in Indonesia, the women in question were working legitimately in a hair salon, a business that a number of trans folk get into. Anyhow the police, doubtless under the influence of an increasingly powerful religious ideology in the country have as their mission the total eradication of the transgender community in Aceh Province. The weblink appended below goes into more disturbing detail of the treatment meted out to the women and behaviour of the police. Glad I live in Australia.
    Regards
    Marian

Thanks for the heads up, unfortunately the disease of intolerance is spreading to the more traditionally tolerant parts of Indonesia with recent moves to outlaw both gay sex and any form of sex between people who are not married. Be interesting to see what effect this has in Bali, where both Indonesians and non Indonesians flock to indulge in both these “evil” activities
