    Injectable oestradiol

Posted by Anonymous on 09/06/2013 at 9:48 pm

I now use injectables. I recommend this route as it is so freeing. One shot a week and you don’t need to worry about all those messy gels and annoying orals to remember to take each day. Next best thing to having ovaries!
Given that you need to do the right thing by customs and the TGA (highly recommended), it is easy sailing from there. Do the paper work and save yourself the trouble. You will need a category B form application then apply for a permit to import. I and my Doctor have mine and my first shipment sailed through customs. Some don’t bother with the paperwork, but the more paper work that is generated the more chance we may see injectable oestradiol stocked at our local chemist. The TGA need evidence to its efficiency to make it readily available.
Unfortunately the rogues who overdose on it and use it without supervision or the TGA’s approval make it hard for the TGA to make it readily available in our pharmacies. The more evidence the TGA has of its usefulness, the easier it will be for all of us to get. Much better than orals which are not good for the liver for the older patient, and belter than gels in its response, (as I have seen already).
Unfortunately, there are some controlling doctors in my area that are opposed to them and one even told me you can’t get them. Well, you can, and you need only go to your GP to get a script.
Recommended dose is 10mg/ml Progynon Depot weekly, (or if you are from America 20mg/two weekly). Range is 400- 600 (old Monash levels). This is regardless if you are post op or not.
Don’t use if you are allergic to peanuts.

Thanks Erica. I’ll be talking to my GP about this. He put me on gel because of my age. But after only one month I’m looking for something less messy and with a more consistent dose.

Hi Carol and Erica… Likewise I am interested in this product because being a similar age with Carol I would like to know if there are any substantial contraindicators to its use. I understand it’s a muscular location injection so that shouldnt be a problem… could we get an indication of probable costs please Erica. I will never be a ‘young spunk’ now, but I could be one hell of a Matriarch!!! xoxox

    Hi Dawndarl.

Costs depend on where you shop. If you peruse the internet and search Progynon depot you will find a number of online pharmacies.

I have found that the more expensive pharmacies have a better and online more secure service.

Erika makes a great point about the paper work. Whilst it might be a pain in the neck, the more evidence that the TGA has of safe and effective use the more likely they are to approve unrestricted importation so that the product can be imported (though I do wonder whether the market is large enough in Australia for a multinational pharmaceutical company to bother importing) and available via local pharmacies.

Can I ask Erika do you have to pay privately for the Progynon or is it covered by medicare / private health insurance?

At the moment my very supportive pharmacist is negotiating with his board to import this product for me. If he is successful I should, based on what I have been told, be able to use my private insurance to cover part/ most of the cost as it will be a non PBS medication. Private insurance is expensive, but I need it anyway to deal with ongoing surgical costs.
However, privately importing the injectables, using my own and my Doctor’s import permit would still be just as cheap if not cheaper.
