hello ladies! oh and admirers, and others who may not think of themselves as ladies. gosh it’s a complicated world isn’t it?

you know, i often go shopping and see lots of things that i like. then i try and think about what i already have in the wardrobe (do i really need another blue vee neck three quarter sleeve cardigan?) and try and think about how to coordinate new things i like with things i already have.

with the head spinning, i can never work out if that bargain top reduced 75% at the david jones warehouse is exactly what i will get good wear out of. it’s bad enough just trying to work out the colour combinations that will work, let alone the fit and style.

to help resolve these sorts of dilemmas, i stumbled on a little quiz that may be useful in these moments

    http://spiegelsignaturestyle.dja.com/

i think what they’re trying to say is that once you have worked out what your style is, you can buy the types of clothing that will best reflect you and in the colours and combination that you feel most comfortable in, as opposed to anything that fits or was hanging on a store dummy.

i hope you find this useful. and by the way … you may have more than one style – you know, casual weekend girl, as opposed to glam uptown party girl … yep, it’s a complicated old world alright.

    happy styling!

    Thanks fashion Guru!

Dunno if you’re expecting any replies, but I gave it a go! Here’s my result from the quiz…

Your Signature Style is: Simple Chic

Simplicity is more than just your style, it’s your approach to life. You firmly believe that it’s better to have one perfectly beautiful piece you can wear for years than a closet full of “almosts”. Quality rules in your world. The trends of the moment may interest you, but they never determine your choices. And that applies to more than just fashion. You are selective and deliberate in all your decisions. The saying “less is more” could have been written for you.

    I guess its reasonably accurate.

    CLARE.

Hmmm…I scored the “Understated Elegance” title…Better go check the wardrobe again ha, ha……Intersting..there are, silks, tailored suits, pin-striped skirts, plain linen blouses, business type shoes, nice jewlery…hmmm…I never ever thought to really label the style of fashion I liked but then again…
By the way, I am fully aware this is a sales pitch, by a clothing company, to stroke any one’s ego. I am also aware of who and what I look like dressed. I think it is ungracious to make comment of others you do not know.

My result was ‘simple chic’. I did the quiz again choosing my LEAST favourite answers and came up with ‘natural sophistication’. The odd thing is when I click on ‘view fashion looks’ to match your result, I prefer what is shown for ‘natural sophistication’…..is this trying to tell me something?

ack I cringed at most of those choices.. lol especially the guy question biggest list of tossers I’ve ever seen oh my! I guess simple chic is the closest to my actual androgynous style. Jeans and a t-shirt anything else at this stage of *cough* development just makes me stick out like a sore thumb.

Sounds like an uderstatement to me

I am supposed to be ” RELAXED GLAMOUR”

jewellery isn’t essentail, it is basic. People come to you for fashion advice, but you aren’t one to be picked out as galmourous”

My style is Modern Romantic. I looked at the fashion suggestions. They sort of match me except most of the skirts were way too long! Without sounding too superficial, it’s really important to me that my handbag and shoes match. I bought a really nice pair of boots about a month ago and I have been searching for the perfect handbag to go with it. I finally found it this week.

I came up with relaxed glamour and I must say I liked the fashions they suggested.

clare – *fashion guru* – blush – hardly … and in any event, i think if we talk about such a being, they would more likely to be guru-ette. Or if you wanted to be gender neutral, and i would assume many of our tr sisters/near sisters/sometimes sisters/admirers may subscribe to that view, maybe we would employ the word, *gur-z*. i guess at the end of the day (usually, about 11:59 pm), we need not get too hung up on linguistics or sexual politics or we’ll be here all day and probably get an exclamation-off-topic-mark from our eagle eyed moderators.

anyway – nice to see a few take the quiz. but like i said, i don’t think that it should be taken too seriously. my point was more that if we choose garments by material, colour, pattern, texture, and cut in mind we can create a look that sort of reflects the person whom we think we are, or want to be.

another view of *style* is taken by sydney morning herald, for example. they divide styles up into the categories of weekender, urban flair, ladylike (i guess that’s us :D ), workwear, and evening glam. all of these can be had using the same basic garment combined with various additional items and accesories:

wow – what are *bandage sandals*? are they one step removed from gladiator sandals – you know, the type mummies wear?

    keep on styling …

I scored “Modern Romantic” and when I looked at the clothing styles I just loved every one of them. Thanks for the link although I suspect it might get expensive from here lol

i have just found some more on-line tips to go with your sense of style.

having gotten the wardrobe in place so that you can exude that sense of style that you want to show the world, you can now match that with your beauty style – your look.

here is a bunch of beauty tips set out along another set of styles of make up: bombshell, classic, sexy, boho, and trendy. sure you need not buy the items they are flagrantly (or in some cases, fragrantly) marketing (talk about infomercial or product placement). i guess the main thing, again, is to get the basic idea and shop accordingly. we need not all go rushing out to buy a new makeup bag.

well, here’s hoping you have a bit of fun and get some good ideas:

    keep on styling!

    The Seductress.
BEAUTY MANTRA – – – Disarm with subtle seduction.
    WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD WITHOUT – – – Perfume.
FAVORITE WAY TO UNWIND – – – With a glass of Dom Perignon.
    MAKEUP MUST-HAVE – – – Shimmer powder.

    Yep! It is!

I’d like to think I dress with understated elegance, that’s my dream. Reality, I need to lose a few kilos, but the elegance is getting closer, I think…..
