  • Make up Application without glasses

Hi……I was going to post here asking how the heck one is supposed to apply makup if you wear glasses. I haven’t needed to wear glasses untill recent cataract surgery. Now I have 20/20vision at a distance but up close is fuzzy.
I tried applying makeup for the first time with glasses and I nearly cried with frustration.
It occured to me that if I found the right makeup mirror it would be just like having glasses only at slightly different focal point.

I walked into an electrical goods store during the week and found the perfect one. Ity’s called “Body Benifits” by Conair and it lights up too !
I am so happy because I can see myself magnified and perfectly sharp !-
Maybe you all knew this but I thought it worth sharing.

    Hugs

I unfortunately haven’t found a magnifying mirror that is strong enough for me. What I do is sticky tape a large magnifying glass to my bathroom mirror, crude yes, but effective as I can see perfectly with it as the lighting is excellent on that mirror.

One problem for me is have a cataract in my RH eye. Its from an old eye injury. No amount of magnification can fix it, when I shut my “good” eye everything is still blurry even with the magnifying glass. Its a pain when applying eye-liner. I am pretty much am guessing as I apply it lol

Yes, I have tried a magnifying mirror and it was better than not using one and getting mascara on my spectacle lens. I can never get eye liner to work. I think I need more practice.

sorry amanda – may be going off topic, but here are a couple of links:

i think one of the secrets is to have a really good brush. mac cosmetics sell a good affordable range. also, i use the “basic i’m off to work or the weekend eye” look – using softer colours. again, mac cosmetics have a good range of these.

back on topic – yep – those magnifying mirrors are the way to go, especially ones with built in lights. they surely make up for those pitiful bathroom lighting options that male architects foist upon us! don’t spare any pennies on your buy. the bigger, the better.

Getting it on my glasses is always a problem and if I take them off I can’t see what I am doing. It is a bugger to clean off your cheeks too, if you have already put your foundation etc on.

I have tried a magnifying mirror but I think it needs a lot of practice.

    Hi girls……
For those of us who need reading glasses to apply make-up……..
having been an advertising / commercial photographer for over thirty years , I thought …
“I’ll bet a concave mirror of roughly the same curvature as the glasses could work”…
so I went to a local Westfields and they had one of those Modern Storage Shops.
There was a whole line of curved make-up mirrors and as I walked past the row of them, about 30 cm away, every single one showed my face in super clarity !
    I was delighted so I got a good one with a built-in ring-light.
    Problem solved !!
