Make-up Tutorial
Posted by Nikki Summers on 23/11/2021 at 7:07 pmHello all
I am desperately trying to learn how to apply make-up properly. Can anyone help me with a good online tutorial to follow. There seems to be hundreds online but they don’t seem to cater for the absolute beginner. Thank you.

OK. I dont want to be THAT girl who literally replies to everything, but this is something close to my ❤️ and you know what… I AM going to reply 🤭
So I love my makeup, its an incredible thing when you can do it well and i just feel so amaze with a gorge face on lol
I learned a lot from Wayne Goss https://youtube.com/c/WayneGoss he does a lot of tutorials and he basically creates and walks through very femme looks but does this on his own boy face, so i found some of his methods essential (eyeshadow for hooded eyes for example!)
You should also get some bits matched to your skin – absolutely a foundation, a concealer would be good too and maybe some starter eye kits (or see guides/tutuorials online for recommended eye/face pallets to match your skin type and undertones). I had foundation and concealer matched in boymode at a Mecca: i went in and asked to have this done, and worked with a guy MUA in store to try different products to find a match! Mecca is high(er) end but the difference in results are SO worth it
I can go on about this all day and walk you through some bits in more depth if you are interested 😁

Trying to get them to pop and be age appropriate is not easy. Also matching concealer etc with your skin tone at Mecca too easy and better than trial error 💋 Nikki

Matching your foundation is so key! Trial and error is expensive, and Mecca are SO happy to help – they dont care if you are a boy, girl, idk penguin… whatever! It was while i was there i learned about colour-correcting concealer which i absolutely live by now!
Every girl should watch some tutorials if they dont have someone with more experience on hand. i’ve seen too many girls who just black out their eye sockets with shadow and call it a look… ah, no honey 😅💁🏼♀️

I went in boymode!
I said hey to the girls at the door and told them i needed to match a foundation and they were like come with us and they took me to a guy makeup artist. He asked about brand preference (OMG Nars!) and then he tested colours on my face, in different lights etc. Was so easy and 0 judgement!
Honestly, i do shop as Chloe, but I wouldnt be out with a full face hun lol

Don’t forget boring old Priceline. They offer make ups (at least before covid) and I got that perfect shade of foundation there too. I went in boymode and they didn’t bat an eyelid. There are often big discounts. All that makeup costs so much!

Thank you so so much. Any and all advice is wonderful. This is an area I want to perfect, or at least get very good at. I will have at look at the Wayne Goss videos.

I do have a make up lesson booked in for February but I might take your advice Chloe and brave a visit to Mecca. I only bought a starter kit which probably doesn’t match my skin tone.

Getting professionally made up is a big help early on. They have years of experience and do a great job. Steal their ideas for when you do it yourself. I found Kyrolan in Oxford Streat wonderful. Good luck.

Nikki, I’m new to this area of dressing , I joined the seahorse society , and while at one of these meeting found one of the girls who is fantastic at makeup . She has agreed to hold a class at my house for a small group .
Maybe try there , or see if you know a woman who would do the same for you

Aside from Mecca, I have heard that Sephora are cd/tg friendly, but want $150 for an hour’s consultation, although that can be offset against purchasing products. I am considering trying them out. Does anyone have any experience with them?
