I’d never attempted full makeup until earlier this year…but the results, while not altogether displeasing, were variable…i.e it was just dumb luck if it turned out OK!

Some internet research threw up the name Grae Phillips, a CD entertainer who has a site at http://www.graephillips.com. From there you can download her makeover tutorial for about $A30. You get webcam clips and MP3s covering all aspects of makeup. She also covers shaping and a bunch of other stuff. I downloaded it, but haven’t had a chance to try it all out yet. For me this was a reasonably priced place to start.

There’s a few you tube clips of Grae in action too (singing, interviews etc).

PS this is my first post…and I have nothing to do with Grae Phillips’ business. Just throwing in another option….

    Jeannie,

Its a bit of trial and error, remember sometimes less is more and what you perceive in a mirror, especially a poorly lit mirror, may not be the effect you are after. Be patient and ask. Plenty of girls here are more than willing to give you tips.

Better to ask than to look like Ronald MacDonald crossed with a panda!

Point taken Helen. I realise the approach taken for a cabaret appearance might be different to the approach taken before ducking down to the local shops for a loaf of bread.

There are already a number of great tips on the site for applying make up, but one thing I haven’t seen yet are some tips for removing makeup completely… without destroying your skin (especially around the eyes) in the process. Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Hi Jeanie,

There are many commercial eye make up removers available. I use them with the little round pads you can purchase from the supermarket. I use baby wipes to remove foundation from my face. I then apply moisturiser after I have finished.

There are a number of video’s on You Tube. Here is an example

    Hi girls,
Well I am about to find out just how good Avon is by way of make up. Has anyone used their foundations.

I don’t have any tips to offer, but I just wanted to reiterate the thanks for all the advice on this thread, I’m only just starting to investigate my options with makeup. hair and so on, and the information on here is not only helpful but it’s also incredibly reassuring! If anyone has any doubt about the lifespan of the threads, I can assure you that it’s going to help us learn well into the future, even though you might have posted it some time ago. Thanks yet again!

Thanks to everyone who provided such great advice. I’m thrilled the thread help out others too. It’s been invaluable in putting together my little kit. On the way I’ve made some tragic blunders but by and large, I am happy with what I’ve bought. Special thanks to Ebay for being such a great supplier and Youtube for so many informative clips. It’s not easy for us part time crossdressers. But it’s great there are so many wonderful girls out there who are willing to share their knowledge.
